I love how the R2D2 cake turned out. His shape is realistic and I'm pretty happy with my fondant covering job (there was a lot of space to cover).
I just happened to be in Boise for a week in October 2014 - it happened to be the weekend for the first annual Tree City Comic Con. I decided to check it out. For a smaller city and an initial comic con it was an absolute blast. Great outfits and the people were so friendly. As luck would have it I didn't have my main camera and and used Heather's Canon P&S. Still - I liked how the shots came out. Next year we will come prepared!

In 2007, hundreds of official U.S. Postal Service blue collection boxes in highly visible locations across 200 cities were transformed into Star Wars character R2D2 look-alikes. The decal-covered mailboxes were rolled out to promote a joint venture with Lucasfilm Ltd: a commemorative stamp roll celebrating the 30th anniversary of Star Wars' release, that went on sale May 25 of that year.

Behold the coolest piece of jewelry I have ever seen: an original R2D2 necklace! Although having R2D2 on a chain around your neck will give you instant cred in certain circles (at least, the kind of circles I run in), it gets even better: there is a hinge on the inside of the necklace allowing R2's legs to move! You can even stand him up!
Measuring 1.5" tall with a 17" chain, it is branded "77-20th Century Fox" and is in good vintage condition with no scratches or discoloration.
After the three parties during the weekend, I celebrated my actual 40th birthday with my son, Louis, and my friend Nicole, at Goofy's Kitchen, in the Disneyland Hotel, in Anaheim, California. A lot of the Disney characters were there to celebrate...
