The bull of excommunication against Martin Luther, Decet Romanum Pontificem - “It Pleases the Roman Pontiff”, was published on 3rd January 1521.
In this bull Martin Luther was formally declared a heretic. Ordinarily those condemned as heretics were arrested by the secular government and put to death by burning.
In Luther’s case, however, a complex set of factors made such punishment impossible. The new German king and Holy Roman emperor Charles V, had agreed as a condition of his election that no German would be convicted without a proper hearing; many, including Luther himself, were convinced that Luther had not been granted this right. Others noted various formal deficiencies in the earlier Exsurge Domine, including the fact that it did not correctly quote Luther and that one of the sentences it condemned was actually written by another author. Still others thought that Luther’s call for reform deserved a more serious hearing. A proposal was therefore circulated that Luther should be given a formal hearing when the imperial Diet convened in Worms later in the spring.

This is my favourite thought that I've invented so far in my life! Rather than wipe the smile off someone's face - to actually wipe a smile ON someone's face... and give them the gift of a banana as a bonus!! Suddenly saw bananas as quotation marks today.

I designed this for one of my colleagues. He's a physics specialist and will hopefully appreciate the quotation.
Am disappointed with the gradient of this one. The form is OK but no matter what combination of colours I tried, it still does not look great.
It has gotten so bad that they had to resort passing off florescent lights as "pillows." Seen on Green St. In Cambridge MA.
