These are mating Convergent Ladybugs (Hippodamia convergent) and are native to California. Their name derives from the two converging white on the pronotum (shield plate covering head). Convergents have 12 spots on an oval body, which is different than the round body shape common to other ladybug specie. Convergents are fairly rare these days, as most ladybugs in California are imports from Asia and Europe. All ladybug specie are valuable, as the larvae and adults eat plant-destructive aphids. 5:1 magnification or 5x life-size.

No sé por qué, pero últimamente estoy en modo minimalista ON. A veces me gusta quitarme toda la parafernalia y buscar formas simples y potentes en lo cotidiano. Bueno, en este caso no tan cotidiano, porque resulta que los cocos no están en temporada y he tenido que recorrer unas cuantas fruterías para encontrar alguno.
Intenté añadirle a la composición naranja, limón, sandía abiertas por la mitad y vistas desde arriba igual, pero todo fastidiaba la composición tan potente del círculo negro sobre fondo blanco y algo de textura en medio. Así que al final, menos es más. Y así se queda.
