QuickTime is a multimedia framework developed by Apple Inc., capable of handling various formats of digital video, media clips, sound, text, animation, music, and several types of interactive panoramic images. Available for Mac OS (Mac OS 9, 8, 7, etc.), Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows operating systems, it provides essential support for software packages including iTunes, QuickTime Player (which can also serve as a helper application for web browsers to play media files that might otherwise fail to open), as well as Apple's various video-editing applications (from the consumer-oriented iMovie to Apple's pro applications such as Final Cut Studio).

I think this new functionality is a real benefit despite the fact that a lot of video editing people have been trashing the new Quicktime 10 video utility that comes with OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard).

This is a short time lapse of a thunder storm in Houston on 5/14.
This is my second attempt at a time lapse. I took 223 photos with 3" exposure using a Nikon D80 and a Phottix TR-90 intervalometer. I forgot to change everything to manual.
The photos were assembled in Quicktime 7 Pro at 15 fps after I used Automator to resize the photos to 30% of the original. Apparently, there is a Quicktime bug in Snow Leopard that prevents you from opening an image sequence of really large files.

Today is the Solstice, the First Day of Summer and the longest day of the year, here in Munich, Germany and everywhere else in the Northern Hemisphere.
Just to prove that Global Warming is a myth and nothing more than a pack of pernicious lies, we just had us a nice little Hail Storm as you can see here.
Shot with the Canon PowerShot SX 1 Full HD cam @ 1920 x1080, Wide Screen, with zoom set to 2x.
Original file was 450 megabytes and then transcoded down to 38 megabytes using Quicktime Pro, first passing it through the Apple TV default settings and then transcoded again using the Divx codecs.
This makes this file about less than 7% of the size of the original, while still maintaining enough quality for it to be posted here.
I know that Flickr doesn't want to turn itself into YouTube, but I wonder about the size/time limits here.
I'm OK with the 500 megabyte limit for video, but not so much with the 90 second limit.
Using this simple method I can produce a video that is almost 20 minutes in length, so why shouldn't anyone be allowed to post videos that length if they fall under the size limit?
After all they won't be taking up any more space on the servers.
Just a thought.
Taken during the EM 2008 Fire Training. The Casino was filled up with actors, the fire department lite some smoke candles and first for a long time, I had no problems taken photos inside :)

I'm not sure if there's a way to get these videos to rotate to landscape mode. When I view the mp4 file in the QuickTime viewer, it displays properly.

This is pretty bad quality, but just a test run for a much better looking video to come. I used quicktime pro to compile the clip (1253 jpegs at 15 frames per second) and imovie to add music. Not the best programs and definitely not the prettiest video, but a successful first run. More practice videos to come....stay tuned.

Recorded using my old Sony CLIÉ PEG-NR70, which had a crude-but-fun camera that could do low-res Quicktime video. Too bad it stopped working.

Arcangel exploited the nearest neighbor interpolation that the QuickTime plugin used at the time of the work's creation, by embedding the videos nearly 3x their actual size. QuickTime now uses a blurry interpolation algorithm.

My first attempt at time lapse. I'm aware its jumpy but had a few issues where I could not exactly replicate position ie my son knocking over tripod. Its also fairly low res Jpeg as quicktime was jamming up on playback with larger jepegs in the intial cuts. Thorikos is an ancient town located on Attica's eastern coast just north of Lavrion. The area was known in antiquity for its silver mines which furnished Athens with much of the basis of its power and wealth.
One of the archeological sites in the area is the ancient theater of Thorikos. It was built of stone in the 6th century BC and it is peculiar due to its unique orthogonal stage and its allipsoidal shape. The site is unguarded and easy to access. There is no admission fee.
While shooting, I met with some archeologists from the Belgian Archaeological School in Greece who were in the process of cleaning the theater from the weeds. You can see in the photos that they had cleaned part of the seating area and they were to continue with the rest.
