Question: Why Did The Koala Cross The Road?
Answer: To visit the chicken! Well, perhaps to look for more food...who really knows?
I just wish I had more space on my camera memory, as I would have loved to have captured this amazing sequence as a Quicktime movie.
I know there is a lot of shots, but these are all in sequence of about 30 seconds as this large koala descended from a tree RIGHT next to me, then SLOWLY ambled across the road, then checked out several trees before continuing along the road - it was only the approach of a very large and menacing dog that frightened it into a rapid ascent.
This was such a wonderful moment - a completely wild and free koala, completely undisturbed by my presence. I have NEVER seen this behaviour before! Perhaps 10 tens at Warrandyte I have disturbed a koala on the ground, but they immediately run to get away from anyone, and are far more fearful and frightened of people.
This was a truly wonderful experience.
This is the koala I referred to before that disturbed all the parrots in my previous photos!
Raymond Island, Gippsland Lakes, Eastern Victoria, Australia
This wonderful, beautiful, wild and free koala lives on Raymond Island, a tiny island but a known koala sanctuary - in Victoria's Gippsland Lakes, some 280km from Melbourne where I live.
I have just returned from a week's holiday, this afternoon, and I took many photos of this, and other koalas, all living wild and free amongst human habitation - mainly holiday homes, but a number of permanent residents too.
These koalas have no fear of people, and unfortunately no fear of cars - this koala was nearly run over crossing the road, right in front of several cars, but fortunately people drive carefully here!
I was busy photographing parrots, when the birds all flew away - and when I turned around, this koala climbed down a tree right next to me, and ambled slowly RIGHT next to me! It was not at all concerned, which was FANTASTIC!
What a thrill to see this koala wild and free, and very healthy.

Although I can rotate these video clips and save them at a satisfactory resolution with Quicktime, when I upload them to Flickr it miniaturises them, which is awfully annoying.
QuickTime for Windows has dangerous security vulnerabilities that let attackers take over your computer, but Apple won’t be updating it to fix them. It’s time to uninstall it.

By the way one video was an quicktime animation screen recording (generated by SnapzPro) and the other was a quicktime cylindrical panoramic, both are free. I’m curious how Google will allow me to present this content. I’ll link them when they “go live” so you can test them out.

30gb hard disk, a gorgeous high-res 4-inch lcd screen, and the ability to play just about all video formats (except Quicktime and Realplayer) - meet the Maxian T600 portable media player from Korea.
This little sucker does music and photos too. USB OTG feature means you can connect your digital camera (or card reader) via USB and transfer photos directly without a PC. You can even drag and drop VOB files, which are native to DVDs, and play them without conversion.
The T600 also has a Monitor mode, which allows you to connect other devices to it and use it a like a monitor. AV-OUT lets you play your movies on your TV (handy for watching your movies on the hotel room TV), AV-IN lets you record from your TV or cable set-top box (in 640 by 480 avi format).
The battery is detacheable and is supposed to last more than 6 hours for video and more than 14 hours for music. So you can purchase extra batteries for long-haul flights.
The company seems very on-the-ball about firmware updates, which hopefully means that new versions of video codecs like DIVX will always be playable on the T600.
Getting media files on the unit is as simple. Just connect it to the PC or Mac via USB and it mounts as an external hard drive.
The screen really rocks. Wide viewing angle and very sharp and bright. I recently tried watching anime on the 2.2 inch screen of an Archos Gmini 400 and while the quality of the Archos screen was great, it was way too small to see the subtitles. That will not be a problem on this model.

It's not the best time lapse video. I made the mistake of taking only one frame every 15 seconds, for a 6 second video. I thought the ship would move slower than it did. It was pretty incredible though in person.
Also, not sure how to color correct in Elements batch processing. I think it only has auto functions, so the colors are a little funky.
Met Andrew Curtis briefly while I was down there this morning. He should have a better time lapse than mine up sometime. His other videos are about the best I've seen.

Slight cock-up on BBC News 24 tonight as we saw a couple of seconds of Microsoft Outlook after a bit of "citizen journalism". It was like that bit in The Truman Show when he sees through the lift - we were dead excited.
Attila is trying out Apple's brand new tablet computer.
When I saw Steve Jobs demoing the iPad at the ominous Apple Keynote I asked myself: Isn't it just a big iPod touch? That time my answer to the question was "yes, it is, nothing more". Now, that I have seen the device, touched it, and used it, I can state that software-wise it might be "just a fat iPod touch", but when you start using it, it is certainly much more.
I don't know how it could fit into my life, and I surely don't need one… but I want one. :)
