Quick-n-dirty panoramic test with a Canon 5D and 24mm tilt/shift lens. No "stiching" software used; just basic alignment of three images with a gradient/layer merge.

Images taken with the camera in a center/right/left shift on the tripod with a corresponding center/left/right shift on the lens to avoid parallax.

This had the effect of turning a 12MP sensor into a 19MP image.

Snatched portrait. I had, literally, two minutes to set up and grab this head and shoulders of my daughter.

Strobist info - Speedlite 430 EXII mounted on camera and set to TTL, pointed at ceiling for bounce.

Lastolite 8 in 1 held by my to camera left and angled up to provide a little fill from the ceiling bounce, sunfire surface used to warm the face.

Quick clean of the flash battery contacts and a fresh AA and it powered straight up. Camera had original button cells, passed the battery check.

Self timer works, variable shutter speeds in low light seem ok, flash triggers, lens is clear & felt looks ok. Well taken care of.

Whilst triggering the shutter to test I noticed the film winder was moving, carefully rewound it most of the way and popped the back - it had an unshot roll of Kodak 400 in it.

made a quick pasta dish for supper tonight - these are my favourite!

1. cook pasta

2. add broccoli (both florets and peeled and sliced stems) a few minutes before pasta is done

3. meanwhile, saute half a medium yellow onion, sliced, and 2 large garlic cloves, chopped in plenty of olive oil until soft

4. slice roasted red peppers (out of a jar, reserving liquid) - approx 1.5 peppers (some were used for another dish earlier this week)

5. chop jarred artichoke hearts (also reserving liquid)

6. drain pasta & broccoli, returning to pot

7. add onions & garlic, peppers & artichoke

8. add a couple of tablespoons of both reserved liquids, some olive oil, lemon juice, white wine vinegar, salt & pepper to taste

9. add 5-6 sprigs of fresh thyme (leaves only)
