The Public Works Department spray paints marks around town to indicate water pipes and such. I am really unsure why they needed this one.
Four-panel mosaic, 12 5-minute exposures each with my Red system. Durham, NC. Pixinsight, ICE, and Photoshop. Using the mosaic feature of Asiair Plus. Note the Bubbe, Lobster Claw, and Cave Nebula region to the lower right.
An angle wing butterfly, either a Comma or a Question Mark, I'm no expert. Notice the dragonfly nearby. Didn't even notice him when I shot this from 10 feet away using my Sony camcorder. Taken October 21, 2009. Rather late in the year for such insects, I would think.
Biggest challenge of the summer. This butterfly does not prefer flowers, is constantly moving, and he scares easily.

my life is kinda a question.
i don't really know whats going on with my friends...i dunno.

i'll continue to take pictures, of course, but i won't be uploading for a while.
Questionmark (Polygonia interrogationis) fluttering around during one of the sunny moments along the trail. These butterflies rarely visit flowers and prefer tree sap, animal droppings, and even dead animals to sip on. It is very similar to the comma butterfly, which I also found on a later hike. They can be distinguished by the number of black spots on the wings. The questionmark has one more spot than the comma.
Look at the upperwing on the far side of the butterfly's body. Notice the small mark, sort of like a dash, next to a larger spot and towards the tip. Question Marks have this dash, Commas don't.
Having said that, don't go out and expect this to be as clear as this shot on the ones you see. None of my Southern Illinois Question Marks were this clearly dashed. They all had the double spot pattern, just not so dash-like a second mark. But if you look at the Comma next to this, the spot pattern is different.
Yeah yeah, What to do, what to do?! Sjeez, Its hard to think of a word with the Q that actually makes some sense... ugh... been dambeling around with Quantum physics for a word... Whatever that may be... (does it even exists?? I'm to lazy to google ;-)) and well, of course there are a lot of words that start with a Q... but unfortunate I left my dictionary at school... *Sight* So... I'll just continue questioning myself for a word that starts with a Q... Maybe if I just would ask that Question in a different way...: A question like, could YOU tell me a word that starts with a Q?? hmm... oh well... who knows...
Not sure what exact type of butterfly this is...from what I can find online it looks to be either a gray comma, eastern comma or Question Mark butterfly...maybe someone can enlighten me that knows more...
The big question mark -- why am I at home today?
Daniel called from school. His blood sugar was over 500, and he had to be sent home. The story is here
