No kidding - the common name of this butterfly is, "Question mark."

I drew a question mark in the sand of the beach at Lorne.

From the top, " the question mark," is a pretty, rather small butterfly. It's signature field mark -- something that looks like a question mark -- is on the underside of the wing. From the underside, however, this butterfly is quite drab.

Spotted in a field at the foot of the Eildon Hills

I was very surprised when the butterfly crawled onto my hand. What was more surprising was how long it was content to visit with me.
