We saw 2 Question Mark's and the Spring azure yesterday at the wetlands, North Georgia. The QM's overwinter around this same tree every year - not only full of Sapsucker holes but they were following an actual SAPSUCKER working the tree on our two last visits! They must really like their sap fresh.
All of my first butterfly shots are pretty bad and I haven't posted ... Spring butterflies aren't posing nicely on big pretty flowers ;-) These QM's are fluttering high in the trees - but still exciting to see! This was the closest one would come on several visits.
Happy Butterfly Tuesday!
Watching the display of the Starling murnuration from a distance I couldn't help taking a photo of the Starlings forming a question mark in the sky with the people silhouetted in the foreground. The sky had changed a few different colours this particular evening making this an even better spectacle with the unusual pockets of cloud..
This species has phenomenal range from southern Canada and across two thirds of the United States from North Dakota down to Texas, from New England down to Florida, and the Gulf Coast to Central Mexico. It is a well-known species, but not commonly encountered. I was quite surprised to find it in Texas.
Family Nymphalidae/Nymphalinae
I realized lately that I was very frustrated with my photostream; especially with the front pages of it. In attempt to stop my consciouness from driving me crazy, i'm uploading some more older stuff I disregarded previously. Enjoy. I'll be adding tags and better descriptions after I get them all loaded on.I realized lately that I was very frustrated with my photostream; especially with the front pages of it. In attempt to stop my consciouness from driving me crazy, i'm uploading some more older stuff I disregarded on a previous run through. Likely because I felt that, although the majority of the recent photos on my stream was more experimental and where I am heading as a photographer right now, these newer images represent where i've been as a photographer, which is important too.
Hopefully i'm not beating an already dead horse.. but some of my earlier contacts will recognize this shot from previously in my stream. Except i found this one this afternoon and the balloons are turned a different way. I think it looks better; what do you think? comments? opinions?
As an FYI, this was taken lying on my back in palm springs. It was for a huge private party, i saw the balloons go into this formation and I shot off film like crazy!
"Now my friend it's time for you
"To break the spell
"Your heart was torn in two
"And somebody revealed the wall...
"Now we stand together,
"Our fight is to be free
"We never will surrender,
"We ride across the fields
"Now it's time to break the silence
"And the truth shall be revealed
"Take the questionmark from your head...
"Let the fairytale be real
"Let the fairytale be real!"

Last year I followed sculptor and friend Mark Rietmeijer during the process of creating a sculpture. When he started working on a new one he asked me to make pictures again.
This time the material is Norwegian Pink - Rose Norwegian, composite marble, multiple stratification, 50 x 70 x 80 cm., 480 kgms.
Adagium to his new sculpture: I never tackled or solved any problems in my life, but instead I learn to dance with them and by considering them as 'questionmarks with wings' I try to escape their weight and gravity.

This image has been rotated 90 degrees in order to more easily view these insects. The Question Mark Butterfly and European Hornet are exploring/tasting the insect bore holes in this tree.
There's a Red Admiral Butterfly (wings closed) blurred out in the foreground.

Not much beats a fall form Question Mark with that lavender edge frosting.

A fine collection on this Willow Oak, all trying to get their chance to access the sap via some insect bore holes.

What is "The Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything"? Can not be the title, however, we know the answer: 42.

Late in the evening I found this question mark butterfly high in a hackberry tree.

On some evenings on Brighton's derelict West Pier an ever increasing number of starlings can be seen swirling around in the developing gloom. When the last has joined the murmuration they swoop down onto the pier to roost for the night. Here they fleetingly form a giant question mark in the sky. Smaller groups can be seen in the distance coming to join in the fun.
This must have been a freshly hatched individual, because its colors were quite vibrant and wing edges not showing any signs of wear.
I saw this butterfly in my back yard so I grabbed the camera and got a shot. I looked for one in the park later that day but didn't see any. The late season form of this species that overwinters is more colorful than the summer form.

We were on the North Sea Coast in The North East of England, Northumberland.
Lots of wind, wild seas, STUNNING light, I love walking on beaches and ALWAYS see something that strikes me as Nature's Art...
I never move or change anything!
I do realise that it is not to everybody's taste, it takes a certain 'eye' to appreciate these.
The thing is, I do not take images for other people, not to please anyone, I take them because they touch me...
Thank you for your time and comments, greatly appreciated, M, (*_*)
