As I work on Study 26, I am one quarter through my 101 Oil Studies project, begun seven months ago. I paint, therefore I am. Apologies to Descartes, but that's not a bad outlook for one's advancing years. I first picked up an oil painting brush 25 months ago at age 68. I'm documenting my progress in my "101 Oil Studies" album.
Heathrow 22-04-1985. This one must score high on the oddball ranking: Ralphs of Longford A365 DAW, Quest B / Locomotors new in May 1984.
I never actually said I was a Quester.
I thought I was going to Book Club.
There were maps. There were dragons. There was talk of the Mire of Misery and the Chasm of Despair, and somewhere around “unfathomable map” I realized I may have seriously misunderstood the invitation.
Still, our résumé isn't entirely hopeless.
We recently outran a giant.
I ate my vegetables.
And apparently, while I was busy trying to understand Quest jargon, Ruckus had been off getting acquainted with the boys.
Rather successfully, as it turned out.
Perhaps a little too successfully.
“Ruckus... is that his watch?”
Silence.
“Give it back.”
More silence.
Eventually one small paw stretched reluctantly across the table.
The watch was returned.
The redheaded gentleman seemed remarkably good-natured about the whole thing.
I smiled apologetically.
Ruckus did not.
And so began our first day on The Quest.
I have absolutely no idea where we're going.
But I have started checking Ruckus's pockets.

The little orphan girl is the girl with the giant in the locket.
This was created because of Dal’s concept sheet of the Giant in the Locket. The orphan girl can only use the ability to hold any person, even a giant inside, due to them magically becoming smaller. The communicator function is of no use to her, as it has facial recognition, and it is Queen Virginia’s locket.
Dal, in case you want to pursue the story of the Giant in the Locket, I have created this for your use when the time comes.
I know if it happens, it will be much later, but I wanted to get it done while I’m thinking of it after seeing your concept sheet.

From the start of the Yukon Quest this morning.
This is a team of Siberian Huskies, I call them the pretty boys of the husky club and are my personal favorite probably because I've had Siberians around for most of my life.
The mushers call them Sloberians, mostly because they are so indendent they will run until they are tired and then sleep and nothing the musher can do to get them moving until they feel rested. As a result, when trail conditions are good you find them at the back of the pack. However, when conditions are bad, because they don't let themselves get to wore out they do quite well. With really bad trail conditions this year maybe it'll be their year.

The quest for new Ottumwa photo-ops continues nearly every time I go out. Saturday, I noticed the sun was right for this angle and I found a nice, stout fence to stand on. It's a little tighter than I was wanting, but I'm all right with the different view.
