26.6.2011. Another shot of 9600 - nice recreation of the GW era with signal box and lower quadrants.

Heading down stream on the Fraser river.

Today's clock uses antialiased lines and shifts the center of the clock to keep the hour, minute or second hand in view. It was inspired by the Doomsday clock's (day 18) quarter view of the clock face.

The antialiased line drawing flickers a bit and the center point is too jumpy. The hour hand had a bug in the angle computation in this video; it is corrected in the source.

The question when the Quadrant opened has been asked and I found a copy of the proposed stand allocations together with a note on the reverse which said:- "Quadrant Phase l - all Coach Station services transfer first on 6 November 1878.

Taken at White Oak Canyon by Kathy Grant. My friend's son was exploring in the creek as we were hiking and I snapped a photo, but, when I uploaded the image, the most interesting part was the play of light and color on the water! You can, however, see Alex's hand beneath the water in the upper left quadrant of the image.

I had a couple attempts at shooting the Quadrant before I was happy with it. The angles are very strange. The Quadrant is a very lucky pub - there's been a lot of re-development around the clock tower, but since the interior has listed status, so must keep all it's original features, the pub has been left standing while a lot of the surrounding buildings and infrastructure are new.

A pair of very tall brick Observation Towers dating from World War Two stand on Grimston Warren. Both of the quadrant towers are built from four brickwork columns, connected approximately half way up with steel tie rods, the columns are also connected at the top with a concrete ring beam.

Usually there is a concrete superstructure on top, used by the observers, in this case the tower probably held a wooden superstructure attached by bolts to the concrete ring beam sitting on top of the columns. Some of the wooden remains and fixings can be seen. Both of the towers show some concrete foundations at the base indicating where a staircase was mounted for access.

Nearby are some cropmarks of a large circle with a large central ''bullseye'' at reference TF 6780 2214, this is believed to represent the remains of a World War Two bomb target.

INFORMATION BOARD -

This tower and its twin, which can be seen in the distance to the north, were constructed by the army and date from the Second World War.

They were used for artillery training by the Royal Observation Corps. Guns fired shells at a target and observers measured the shell trajectories and determined the accuracy of each shot. The two view points were necessary to pi point the exact position each shell fell.

This tower was entirely hidden within a dense conifer plantation from the 1960’s. It was only the felling of trees in 2009 as part of Norfolk Wildlife Trust's heathland restoration project that has once again revealed the tower. For the first time in decades the original sight-line between the two observation towers has been opened up.

BEWARE ORDNANCE ‼️

There are also the remains of other military features dating from around the time Second World War, including slit trenches, and gun emplacements. Occasionally the remains of shells and other ordnance are found here. Should you find any metal objects which you think may be ordnance please do not handle them but safely mark the location and report your findings to Norfolk Wildlife Trust on 01603 625540.

First full day of the visit...last night the tree was decorated with laughter and memories....the light is so so bright here...intense really. After weeks of layered grays and rain it is almost hurtful to look through the bright. A day filled with busy plans here and there.

I started with an original "Quadrant Kaleidoscope" and further manipulated the image with the GIMP software, using Filters --> Distorts --> Kaleidoscope. I vary the preset settings to achieve a different effect with 4 or more reflections.

Now installing a shower enclosure has never been easier. The stylish Slot and Lock Quadrant from Aqualux is a new concept for the UK market. Using the innovative Slot and Lock system, it is the first in a series of unique, screwless enclosures, which take as little as 5 minutes to assemble.

Lewis Carroll wrote this little text to introduce Victorian children to the concepts of logic. He devised a game, the game of logic, which takes place on a square grid divided into four quadrants. A player uses colored markers to diagram the meaning of propositions such as “some cakes are sweet” and “all tigers are fierce.” The game does a decent job of teaching basic logical theory, coming as it does from the author of “Alice in Wonderland” who, along with his whimsical literary interest in nonsense, was a gifted mathematician.

Detail shot of part of the bracket from Moreton-on-Lugg Signal Box's GWR Up Home bracket signal No.5/7. This signal along with all the other semaphores at Moreton-on-Lugg were replaced by colour lights on the 30th October 2022. The bracket part of the signal was stored on the ground near the stone terminal for a few weeks, where I was able to these detail photos of it on 13th November 2022.
