MG HS – THE RAREST VARIANT EVER OFFICIALLY PRODUCED
The MG HS TRACK EDITION
What must surely be the rarest MG HS made to date, was first unveiled on September 5th 2019 to press ahead of the 22nd annual CDMS Chengdu Motor Show held at Century City New International Convention & Exposition Center in,China, which ran from September 6th to 15th 2019.
The show was seen as part of MG's 95th anniversary celebrations. Organised by Hannover Milano Fairs Shanghai Ltd, the show featured 95 exhibitors and played host to 580,000+ visitors.
The MG HS TRACK EDITION
It appeared in Brixton Blue metallic paint and was a lowered version featuring 19'' inch sports cross spoke alloys on Pirelli Pzero 245/45 ZR19 tyres and red painted and logo'd calipers. Colour coded trim and round quad tailpipes, added to the package with Alcantara material on the seats, dash and console surround, a synthetic textile that was developed in the 1970s by a Japanese chemist and manufactured by an Italian company called, Alcantara.
The seats also featured X-Power blue logos (a brand created by MG Rover Group in April 2001 and now owned by MG Sports and Racing Europe), and stitching on the leather headrests and chrome TROPHY badges on the dash and both rear flanks and special tailgate badging. The front stellar field or stardust grill was all black with a black surround to complete the sportier look.
A standard 30T 2.0 Litre 4 cylinder inline 231hp engine was used with 1995cm and 360 Nm @ 2500-4000 rpm or 265.52 lb.-ft. @ 2500-4000 rpm. It had a top speed of around 131mph (210 km/h). It also came with All wheel drive (AWD) and this engine is standard in the Australian and overseas versions of the HS. So no power gains over the original engine, but some hefty beefing up of suspension components and lowering of the body, which would be very interesting to lap around the track a few dozen times.
This was merely a show car as part of the celebrations and despite press speculation, it was never intended as a stand alone model nor destined for the UK market.
