Pushkar (Hindi: पुष्कर) is a town in the Ajmer district in the state of Rajasthan, India. It is situated at 14 km North West from Ajmer at an average elevation of 510 metres (1673 feet), and is one of the five sacred dhams (pilgrimage sites for devout Hindus). It is often called "Tirth Raj" - the king of pilgrimage sites - and has in recent years become a popular destination for foreign tourists.

Pushkar is one of the oldest cities of India. Pushkar lies on the shore of Pushkar Lake. The date of its actual origin is not known, but legend associates Lord Brahma with its creation. It is mentioned that Brahma performed penance here for 60,000 years to have a glimpse of Vishnu.

Pushkar has many temples.

There was a low water level in January 1996. Pushkar is one of the five sacred dhams (pilgrimage site) for devout Hindus.

..edifici ai bordi del Lago

Città silenziosa, 20.000 abitanti e mille templi, il più antico dei quali ha 800 anni... quasi completamente pedonalizzata, circolano solo moto, scooter, risciò e biciclette...in questo traffico si incontrano vacche, cani, scimmie, vitelli, cammelli, tutti a passeggio per le vie del mercato e intorno al lago sacro, sui ''Gat''.

I Gat sono le scale che portano al lago, luogo di preghiera e di purificazione, i bagni si fanno con qualsiasi tempo, nonostante le acque siano inquinatissime....E' assolutamente proibito raggiungere queste scalinate con le scarpe: i fedeli induisti sono scalzi, i turisti si premuniscono di calzini

facendo comunque attenzione a dove mettono i piedi !!!
