Funny, Pushkar is a mecca for neo-hippies and new-agers, but evidently it's not the safest place in India... these dire warnings were in the lobby of our hotel.
The Pushkar Fair, or Pushkar ka Mela, is the annual five-day camel and livestock fair, held in the town of Pushkar in the state of Rajasthan, India. It is one of the world's largest camel fairs, and apart from buying and selling of livestock it has become an important tourist attraction.
November 2008 - For an early morning workout I ascended the mountain trail leading up to Savitri Temple. More than 400 pilgrims died in stampedes on similar temple trails at two other locations in India in 2008. After making this trek it became apparent to me how easily these temple trails can become deadly. Add energetic teenagers running to the top then back down, with elderly visitors barely able to crawl to the top, then often resting in the middle of trail on the way down, to a steep, rocky, narrow trail, and you've got a recipe for disaster when crowds swell.

Jahrhundert.
Pushkar (Rajasthan) is one of the oldest existing cities of India and is one of the five sacred pilgrimage sites for devout Hindus. It lies on the shore of Pushkar Lake. The date of its actual origin is not known, but legend associates Brahma with its creation. Most of the temples are not very old because many temples were destroyed during Muslim conquests in the area. Subsequently, the destroyed temples were rebuilt. The most famous among all is the Brahma Temple built during the 14th century.
