The Pushkar Fair, or Pushkar ka Mela, is the annual five-day camel and livestock fair, held in the town of Pushkar in the state of Rajasthan, India. It is one of the world's largest camel fairs, and apart from buying and selling of livestock it has become an important tourist attraction and its highlights have become competitions such as the "matka phod", "longest moustache", and "bridal competition" are the main draws for this fair which attracts thousands of tourists.[1] In recent years the fair has also included an exhibition cricket match between the local Pushkar club and a team of random foreign tourists. The Imperial Gazetteer of India, mentions an attendance of 100,000 pilgrims in early 1900s

There seems to be plenty of photos around of Pushkar's famous lake, also known as Pushkar Sarovar. There is also plenty of photos to be found of its world renowned Camel Fair. This is probably why I feel as though this is one of my favorite photos that I took while visiting this beautiful little city.
As I first went through my photos, I almost didn't even recognize where this was taken. I recalled climbing up to the very top of our haveli on the first morning we were there. I had taken these pictures as I was trying to get a sense of direction and an idea of the city's layout. The sun was casting a glow on the area and had yet to peak over the nearby mountains. Sounds of the city had already begin to fill the air, marking its awakening. I was reminded that we were in Pushkar with sounds of camel yells in the surrounding area. It's one of those moments that really pinches you good and reminds you that you're in India's arms.

The Pushkar Cattle Fair is an annual even held at the holy city of Pushkar near Ajmer in Rajasthan.A few thousands of camels accompanied by their owners dressed in colourful ethnic clothes gather around November to sell and exchange cattle, mostly camel.

The Pushkar lake has 52 ghats where pilgrims descend to the lake to bathe in the sacred waters.
