Harrogate look for runs during an ultimately forlorn chase against South Northumberland. The Yorkshire North Premier Cricket League leaders fell 43 short at St George's Road in a rain-affected ECB National Club Championship fifth-round tie.
When Marcus North (74) and Simon Birtwistle (73) put on 159 for the second wicket, Gosforth-based North East Premier Leaguers South Northumberland looked on course for a score of between 300 and 350. Both fell in quick succession, however, and the Newcastle team's run rate dropped and they fell short of 250. Rain extended the tea interval, and fell again three overs into Harrogate's reply, leaving the hosts with a revisited target of 210 off 30.4 overs. At 95-7, with opener Matthew Good (54) back in the pavilion, the situation appeared hopeless but a stand worth 64 for the eighth wicket made for a reasonably entertaining finish.
Match statistics: South Northumberland 239-6 off 45 overs (Marcus North 74, Simon Birtwistle 73) beat Harrogate 166 off 30.4 overs (Matthew Good 54) by 43 runs. Owing to rain interruptions, Harrogate were given a revised D/L Method target of 210 in 33 overs. South Northumberland won the toss and elected to bat. Admission: free. Programme: none. Attendance: 80.
Harrogate Cricket Club were formed in 1877 during a meeting at the Somerset Hotel. They leased the St George's Road ground for an annual rent of £24. In 1885, WG Grace played there for an England XI against an Australian touring team. Between 1882 and 2000, St George's Road hosted 98 first class matches. Harrogate almost went bust during the 1930s depression. The town council saved the club by buying the ground then leasing it back to them. International teams to play at St George's Road include New Zealand (1931), India (1932) and West Indies (1933). A bungalow for the groundsman was built in 1963 and the Tavern (now the Little Crickets Pre-School) a year later. In 1998, Harrogate reached the Lord's final of the ECB National Club Championship. Pontefract-born Yorkshire and England player Tim Bresnan opened the £750,000 pavilion in 2011. Its predecessor was destroyed by fire. Harrogate are members of the Yorkshire North Premier League, established in 2016.

Door handle of the PUSH variety, that has seen a lot of use. I can see 3 layers of paint (black, grey, yellow) and my guess is that the yellow is the bottom layer. I like the interesting scratches and patterns of the daily wear-and-tear has exposed. Reflected in the door glass is the oppossite side of Gouger Street and today's nice blue sky.

IDENTIFICATION: A flat, smooth-shelled turtle, readily distinguished by its orange plastron, yellow striped neck, and red stripes running down its front limbs. Males much smaller than females, adults 90-170 mm carapace length.
Painted turtles are widely distributed in Connecticut, but uncommon at higher elevations. They reach their greatest abundance in weed-choked, shallow impoundments and ponds. Although not as widely distributed as the common snapping turtle, painted turtles are Connecticut's most familiar turtle because of their basking habits, conspicuously perched in large numbers on emergent rocks and logs.
These bangles are made from old plastic knitting needles (the middle bits - left over from using the tips and tops in other designs) and push pins (ones my mother gave me years ago).
I'm using all the leftovers and bits and bobs collected in my studio over the past eight years.

Long after the candy, itself, had been devoured, I found the cap lying on a corner of our dining table.
Some detailed investigator work led me to a child with blue candy-stained lips and a pair of sticky hands.
Case solved.
