March, 2006. Two festival puppet likenesses of Rev Howard Moody and Rev Edward Judson, made for the installation service of Rev. Donna Schaper, senior minister at Judson Memorial Church, NYC. Puppets were made and manipulated with the help of church members young and old.

In a lot of respects, antique malls are like overpriced yard sales. Sure there's plenty of cool stuff in there... But this toy was $125! Who in the hell would even think of buying it for that price?

I spotted these puppets sitting on the stairs along one of the pathways. There didn't seem to be anyone around who owned them, though.

A puppet represents a human being without being human. Thus, it is an excellent vessel for projection. Projection is attaching one’s feelings and/or actions to another person or object. The puppet creator or puppeteer endows the puppet with characteristics that reflect his or her inner view of human nature, self and others. Because the puppet is an inanimate object, it is a safe avenue for expression. It is responsible for all of the views and emotions it communicates, not the puppeteer. Using puppets to create stories initiates an avenue for inventing a personal metaphor. A story brings truths and imaginative forces of the inner world to a safe arena to be viewed outwardly by oneself and others.
This assignment followed the Puppet Walk. I used the same character (Terry McGinnis from Batman Beyond) and synced him to the line: "Sometimes I ask myself, 'Is Batman just the suit or is it the man inside?'" I primarily used Adobe Flash and was able to produce this in just a matter of hours. I am Adobe Certified in Adobe Flash, thus was fluent enough to not only complete the assignment early but help other students whenever they needed help.

I went to see puppets being made for Shadow puppet theatre.
Wayang Kulit is a unique form of theatre employing light and shadow. The puppets are crafted from buffalo hide and mounted on bamboo sticks. When held up behind a piece of white cloth, with an electric bulb or an oil lamp as the light source, shadows are cast on the screen.
Wayang Kulit plays are invariably based on romantic tales, especially adaptations of the classic Indian epics, "The Mahabarata" and "The Ramayana". Some of the plays are also based on local happenings (current issues) or other local secular stories. It is up to the conductor or "Tok Dalang" to decide his direction.
