On a tour with Mexico Kan Tours, walking the fishing village of Punta Allen deep inside the Sian Ka'an Biosphere. It was smoking hot and this friendly town resident was out on the street. Our tour group is just visible down the sandy lane.

The GEF Small Grants Programme has supported Community Tours Sian Ka’an through several grants from its Community Management of Protected Areas Conservation initiative in partnership with the United Nations Foundation. Community Tours Sian Ka’an (CTSK) formed an alliance of three sustainable ecotourism cooperatives that work directly with the Punta Allen and Muyil indigenous communities.

One of my favorite encounters along any Caribbean reef are the Trumpetfish shyly hiding amongst the soft corals. Because this particular fish was a decent size and I was only equipped with my macro lens I had to focus on some of his finer details.
