Sea Turtle taking a breath. Got EXTREMELY lucky with this shot. We followed this turtle for about 15 minutes in our boat waiting for it to surface so we could get a better look and hopefully a photo. When these turtles do finally surface they come up for literally ONE second (if that) and then shoot right back down. I somehow managed to take this shot, the previous shot, AND have them be focused in that 1 second time-frame.

on the way back from Punta Allen (Mexico) we met thousand of blue crabs... this was my favourite! :)
Cardisoma guanhumi, also known as the blue land crab, is a species of land crab found in tropical and subtopical estuaries along the Atlantic coast of the Americas, from Brazil and Colombia, through the Caribbean, to Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, and as far north as Vero Beach, Florida.The species varies in colour from dark blue to brown or pale grey, and may grow to 11 centimetres (4.3 in) in width and weigh over 500 grams (18 oz)
El cangrejo azul o Cardisoma guanhumi hace su vida sobre una franja costera de no más de 5 km. de ancho, en estuarios del Golfo de México y Florida, Panamá, Colombia, Venezuela, Bahamas y Puerto Rico. Es un animal esencialmente vegetariano –aunque también consume invertebrados y carroña–, y de hábitos terrestres. Vive en huecos que cava donde la capa freática (donde está el agua subterránea) no está a más de 2 metros de profundidad.

Boca Paila se localiza al sur de Tulum, dentro de la Reserva de la Biosfera de Sian Ka’an, y se puede llegar por una angosta carretera costera. Se ubica en una franja de terreno, entre el Mar Caribe y la Laguna Muyil, los campamentos de pescadores le proporcionan los servicios básicos: una cama confortable, comida y transportación en lancha.
Los amantes de la naturaleza disfrutarán de la vegetación tropical, y los observadores de aves podrán regocijarse con ejemplares poco comunes. Los que prefieren acampar tendrán que traer sus propias provisiones, incluyendo alimento y agua.
Boca Paila, constituye una enorme marina natural que puede proporcionar seguro abrigo para muchas embarcaciones, lo que permite de igual forma, la pesca deportiva y otros deportes acuáticos.
En esta laguna de mas de 70 km de longitud que se comunica con zonas arqueológicas Mayas como las de CHUYN-CHE, desovan y se reproducen la mayor parte de las especies de la fauna marina de la región entre las que destacan el macabi o bon-fish, palometa, robalo, pargo, etc, lo cual convierte en lugar ideal para los amantes de la pesca con caña ligera. Es un complejo de pesca deportiva de fama mundial situado en pleno corazón del Parque Nacional y Reserva de la Biosfera de Sian Ka‘an, es una paraíso para el pescador deportivo
Boca Paila se vuelve exclusiva por su tranquilidad pues muy poca gente llega hasta ahí. Es el sitio ideal para una larga caminata y la recolección de conchas, restos de corales y piedras marinas; paradas que permite reposar libremente sobre la arena o tomar un refrescante baño, en la playa que pareciera ser un olvidado refugio de la naturaleza.

Sunrise over Ascension Bay ... Punta Allen, Mexico. This area is part of the Sian Ka'an biosphere reserve. What an amazing place to visit. If you are looking for an off-the-beaten-path getaway, check it out. Quite a journey to get there, but well worth it.

This Winter plumage bird with no spots had us guessing for quite awhile.
Standing on the piling, it had no room to walk and show the distinctive bobbing walk of the Spotted Sandpiper.

A large, robust wader, nesting along the Atlantic coast of North America and also in the interior. This is the largest of the species popularly called "shanks" in the genus Tringa. The name is onomatopoeic, referring to the call. Migrates south after breeding.
