One of the most beautiful and most photographed Punch Bowl falls in state of Oregon. This fall is located along the Eagle Creek trail in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic area. Worth the hike!
The jester welcomes you with a puppetry grin. Once inside you are confronted with rather expensive art, jewellery and accessories from local and international artists.

- www.kevin-palmer.com - To see the northern lights in northern Wyoming the KP index has to be at least 5. But when the moon is this bright it requires KP6. The aurora was just bright enough to punch through the moonlight.
i met jesse and darren at the eagle creek trail head at 6:30am on saturday in hopes of doing some creek walking for a nice canyon shot. the initial plan of simply crossing the creek quickly became a challenging plan as recent rains had the water level higher than anticipated. i waded out in knee deep, then thigh deep, then waist deep and almost chest deep and came to the conclusion that unless we were swimming across it was going to be very difficult.
we must have stood at the bank another 5 minutes analyzing every boulder and every sweeping current. it was as if we were hoping that if we stood there long enough mother nature would shape shift a path for us but we knew this wasn't going to happen so we scampered back up to the trail for the plan b.
plan b. had to be as bad, if not worse, than the feeble attempts at creek crossing. about a 1 1/2 mile down the trail we slowly made out way down to a cliff's edge for a wonderful vantage of the creek. it wasn't really so much as an edge though, instead think if a steeply sweeping hill that suddenly disappears into a canyon river bed. i took a couple shots here but was out of my comfort zone so i retreated a safe distance to take a couple of shots of darren and jesse shooting precariously close to the edge.
from here we took "dead/stupid man's trail" down to a great perspective right where metlako falls was raging. one mis-step here and you are going to take a very nasty tumble down into the bubbling cauldron of white water. once you get set though it's a pretty amazing view of the falls so it's a trip well worth it assuming you safely arrive there.
next it was on to punchbowl. since i'd never been here i'd initially expressed interest in taking the trail down to the water level but darren wisely suggesting checking out up top first. about 50 yards from the viewing spot we could see the sunlight just beginning to pour through the trees. without hesitate we all began to run up there all the while trying to assemble our camera gear so as to not waste any time...and this is what waited for us.

From last spring's (2024) trip to the Northwest.
Sadly, this is not the photo I wanted. I wanted to be down there, level with the pool. I could find no means to accomplish that, however--at least, within sane reason. Just downstream there is a lower falls, and theoretically, one could traverse the creek there and then hike along the creek's bank to the pool. Unfortunately, the stream was swift and high. To attempt a crossing on this day would be risking my safety and the safety of my camera. I had seen photos taken from below that were just gorgeous, but it was not to be on this trip. Perhaps later during the summer months it would be less hazardous, but I hate traveling in summer owing to the crowds. Oh well, it was still beautiful, and the hike was pleasant.
I actually had designs on using the falls/pool as a backdrop for some nude photography had I been able to reach that pool.
Get the headphones off, stop listening to Joy Division, put the bloody camera down and get on with the work you're supposed have finished by 3 o'clock.

The pub was rebuilt in 1931 by the Chesterfield Brewery Company which was soon after taken over by Mansfield Brewery. Here is another photo from Joshua's first day at Karate practice. He got to break a plywood board using his newly learned and explosive punching techniques. We took the broken pieces home and later that evening he also broke one of the remaining pieces in two. Super power.

My work took me to Rock Hall Maryland this week so I got there early in hopes of catching the sunrise somewhere along the water. I raced around trying to find a spot without "no trespassing" and "keep out" signs as the sky was lighting up in the east. I finally found a marina with signs that said "members and guests only"......so I decided that I would be a guest. Got a number of great shots of waterman heading out in their boats. Thinking about changing jobs....wishing I didn't get seasick.
