Pumpkin Harvest and Halloween, Ontario, Canada. This is a shot of my beautiful niece, days before her second birthday. We all love the creative and artistic aspect of photography, however it was a photograph of her at halloween that revealed a greater power of the camara...one that saved her life. One of her eyes in the photograph reflected light rather than absorbing it, which indicated that something may be wrong. Tests were conducted immediately and she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Retinoblastoma. To prevent the tumour from spreading to her other eye causing total blindness or spreading to the brain, her right eye had to be removed and replaced with a prosthetic eye. I am happy to tell you that thanks to medical advancements and early detection, she is cancer-free and doing absolutely amazing. It has been 1 year now, and I am inspired by this little creature's resiliance and spirit. I just wanted to share how a simple photograph can have such a deep significance and can infact save a life. xo

'Tis the season (not that one, but the one just before it).

This is the pie pumpkin harvest we collected from the garden this year. Last year we only got two, so we're quite happy to be able to use these to make a pumpkin pie and a pumpkin cheesecake for tomorrow's dinner with the graduate students.

Home Grown Pumpkins harvested from the 2 volunteer plants that popped up in my garden.

Yes, I have succumbed to the hype and have purchased a halloween

pumpkin. Next step is to carve it . . .

One day I found two pumpkin seeds.

I planted one and pulled the weeds.

It sprouted roots and a big, long vine.

A pumpkin grew; I called it mine.

The pumpkin was quite round and fat.

(I really am quite proud of that.)

But there is something I'll admit

That has me worried just a bit.

I ate the other seed, you see.

Now will it grow inside of me?

This photo is part of a video for Halloween.
