The Spanish Revival library is a landmark in Edgewood, a leafy historic railroad suburb of Pittsburgh. The library is one of the few non-Carnegie libraries in the area and may have originally been a private library and club.

The building was reopened in 2003 following a restoration and major refurbishment and new build. The brief called for maintaining the architectural integrity of the original intact main building while redeveloping the rear section to cater for the more functionally demanding uses.
Note this is designed for "shoulder to shoulder" reference service so that the client is next to the staff member. There were several of these pod through the library to aid in the proactive delivery of roving reference. While seats are shown, I mostly saw staff standing with the client, after having been walking around looking for people who they could assist. To repeat this is a proactive model and it was very exciting to see it in operation.
And even though I never show my library card at any library near here, I still have some old cards to show off.
Bishan Library is next t a bus and train interchange and a shopping centre. There are lots of people walking around. The children's area is in the basement, and the young adult area on the top floor. Like other Singapore public libraries visited, it had an excellent comic collection.
