This protest took place in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida June 5th and 6th 2005. Although the protest was inspired by George W. Bush attending the OAS meeting taking place in South Florida, the protesters had many different agendas; some of the protesters were even there in support of Bush.
The Organization of American States (OAS), or, as it is known in the three other official languages, (OEA), is an international organization, headquartered in Washington, D.C., United States of America. Its members are the thirty-five independent states of the Americas.
The notion of closer hemispheric union in the American continent was first put forward by Simón Bolívar ("The Liberator") who, at the 1826 Congress of Panama, proposed creating a league of American republics, with a common military, a mutual defense pact, and a supranational parliamentary assembly. This meeting was attended by representatives of Gran Colombia (comprising the modern-day nations of Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, and Venezuela), Peru, the United Provinces of Central America, and Mexico, but the grandly titled "Treaty of Union, League, and Perpetual Confederation" was ultimately only ratified by Gran Colombia. Bolívar's dream soon foundered with civil war in Gran Colombia, the disintegration of Central America, and the emergence of national rather than continental outlooks in the newly independent American republics.
A group of Romanians protested the use of cyanide in gold mining operations in Romania. For several hours on a brisk spring day, they gathered in front of mine company investor John Paulson, hedge fund manager, investor, and held up banners and passed out flyers.
The protest was part of a larger international movement against the Romanian government’s controversial decision to allow a Canadian firm to build Europe’s largest opencast gold mine.
Environmentalists and activists are warning that the mine, if opened, would lead to the destruction of four mountain peaks and three villages. Terrible as that would be, their greatest fear is the planned use of cyanide, a highly toxic substance, that is required for the mining process—12,000 tons of it each year.
The fear is well grounded in recent history. In 2000, a cyanide spill near the town of Baia Mare, Romania, occurred when a dam containing toxic mining waste burst, releasing 100 tons of cyanide-contaminated waste water into the Lapus, the Somes, as well as the Tisza and Danube rivers.
Considered the worst environmental disaster since the Chernobyl nuclear leak in 1986, the poisoning of the river Tisza resulted in the destruction of the river's entire ecosystem in a matter of days, everything from microbes to otters, according to the BBC.
On May 23rd, 2019, demonstrators and leafleters gathered at McDonald’s annual shareholders’ meeting to encourage the company to use its power for good and end the horrific cruelty endured by chickens killed for its menu items. This year’s shareholders’ meeting was held inside a hotel at Dallas Fort Worth Airport, and for the first time away from its Illinois headquarters, possibly a reaction from our large protest in Chicago at the same event last year.
With more demonstrators than shareholders on site, McDonald’s should know advocates are committed to ending #McChickenCruelty. Aside from organizing the protest, we also took out full-page newspaper ads in the Dallas Morning News and the Chicago Tribune, as well as commissioned mobile billboards, geo-targeted ads at the entire airport and social media actions.
So many people want this to stop. So many people are scared of what will happen if they speak out. So many people think that the side-effects of the chemicals are their illness.
Can't even sue the doctor when the forced medication puts you in a coma, give you diabetes, gives you Tardive Dyskinesia, causes depression, causes chronic fatigue.
Sue? Just change the law that forces people to take drugs that harm them. Give people a choice over their medical treatment.

The latest Stop the War march. Having initially allegedly banned it, the Metropolitan Police relented, allowing 5000 people to march down Whitehall to Parliament Square.
However upon arriving in the Square the protestors were met with massive limitations - College Green still inexplicably cordoned off, space provided for no more than a couple of hundred and huge numbers of police. The back of the demonstration ended up getting held very tightly together by the police on Whitehall for a very long time as the police struggled to come up with more suitable arrangements. Unsurprisingly when they were finally allowed through, feelings were very high and a sit down protest on the intersection resulted.

Also known as complete idiots. We expected there to be more of them this year, especially with the current anti-gay climate, but there were only three of them, when last year there were four.

The lead-up to Saturdays protests against the TPPA shows the commitment of people across the country to send a message that the government cant ignore, said ItsOurFuture spokesperson Edward Miller.Nationwide day of action against TPPA: “Ignore us at your peril” government warned
“The lead-up to Saturday’s protests against the TPPA shows the commitment of people across the country to send a message that the government can’t ignore”, said ItsOurFuture spokesperson Edward Miller.
A video shows young activists publicising Saturday’s nationwide protests with footage from Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin, Christchurch, and Nelson.
Action in the 22 centres starts at 10am in Raglan and many of the larger centre marches begin at 1pm, including Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
“People have been incredibly creative”, Miller said. “In Christchurch a giant plain-packaged cigarette packet will be marching in the crowd, while Auckland will be led by an enormous Trojan Horse, locked in a tug-of-war between major commercial interests and activist communities.”
“Around the country everyday kiwis will be photographed for a virtual campaign with signs saying ‘I am a ___________ and I say #TPPANoDeal.’ Already this campaign has been very popular.”
“Trade minister Tim Groser needs to recognise that people don’t buy the ‘trust me’ line. They want to be listened to when they say they don’t want the TPPA. And they deserve to be listened to.”

Protest by Dads' rights campaigner
Fathers' rights campaigner Simon Anderton is continuing his protest on top of the Tyne Bridge. The 44-year-old climbed nearly 200ft and unfurled a Happy Fathers Day banner and dangled a dummy of a hanged man underneath the iconic structure as a demonstration for dads who are refused access to their children.
Bridge was closed to pedestrians today.
