Perfect timing!
I decided it was time to get down on one knee, and that I wanted to catch the moment on camera. We were on holiday in Mauritius at Turtle Bay, Balaclava and the sunset was just perfect.
After a few trial shots of just the sunset, I suggested we get a silhouette picture of the two us us.
Timer set for 10 seconds, and this was the result!
To say I was happy with it would be an understatement. Thankfully the answer was also a yes!

Was hired to shoot a marriage proposal in New Orleans, at Jackson Square.
Out of respect for privacy, I will not include names.
During the Figment festival I stopped to take some shots of a Belly Dancer, because I admire the style and Belly Dancers are really hot. Immediately following the performance, Najla (the dancer) received an offer she couldn't refuse: a marriage proposal. Congratulations Najla, may you have many happy years together. Your fiance is a smart man, look at all the money he saved on photographers for your engagement photos!

Was recruited on reddit to take photos of a proposal. The couple came all the way from Florida for a little vacation. Little did she know that he was finally going to propose (after 8 years of dating)!
Had a lot of fun with this. :)
The proposal was shot in a studio against a white sheet of paper. The key light is off camera to the left with a canon strobe and an umbrella. The background is an HDR image of Red mountain in the phoenix area.

Two of my parent's employees were engaged today at a gathering...
I wish the ring would've been more in focus.. but the newly engaged owner of the ring was standing close by and was rushing my shot so she could get it back on her finger... ;)
Dayz Rachel and Christopher at our mock wedding photo shoot, on May 25th, 2011. Only, this wasn't a mock proposal. Christopher dropped to his knee and really proposed to Dayz. She said YES!!! :-)

Project Proposal

1.Title
Regrets and the second chance.
2.Aims
Many people have regrets in their lives. Some regret not pursuing the dream, some regret never say “I love you”, some regret staying in their comfort zone. They are always doing the plan B, but that is not the way they want. If they were given a chance to go back, they could make a very different choice and their lives may be completely changed now.
Will you choose different if you got a second chance?
My study aims to encourage people to make a brave change, and pursue what they like and live the way they want to be.
3.Context
In the book Illustrator Illustrated, one of Chuck Gillies’s work is a redesign based on Grant Wood's American Gothic, in which the two old couple turned young. This picture reminds me that many people may want to live all over again, a different choice may result in a completely different life now.
In the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts graduation exhibition, a student’s work discusses the right way to treat the sex education issue for children. He printed reports about sex education by red and blue colour on paper, and the red and blue letters were superimposed together. He put two red and blue transparent plastic plates on the paper, the letters will be hidden under the same colour plastic plate, so the audiences could see the different text on the paper. I like his idea about showing different information through the filter, and hope to use this idea in my work.
At first, I plan to paint the world famous paintings with red colour on the upside of a thick explosion-proof glass and arrange a different ending for the painting on the underside with blue colour. Then set a red glass plate about 20 cm in front of the painting, and set a blue glass plate 20 cm behind the painting. By pushing the painting and make it contact with the red or blue glass plate, it is possible to hide one colour, and only see another colored content.
Later, I found out that the bidirectional mirror is a better media than glass to express my idea. The bidirectional mirror is a semi-transparent film of aluminium deposited on an acrylic or polycarbonate substrate. This allows a percentage of incident light to pass through while reflecting the remainder. From the illuminated side, it is a mirror. From the darkened side, it becomes transparent. You can only see through the mirror when the area you are looking from is darker than the area you are looking into.
Paint two different possibilities of the same person on two sides of the bidirectional mirror, on the mirror side illustrates the previous life condition, and on the transparent side illustrates another possibility.
Many artists had painted on the mirror or glass. Some artists paint on the upside of the mirror. British artist Tom Baker creates detailed snowy scenes on window panes uses snow spray and a dry paintbrush. Chilean artist Paul Cézanne creates the artworks with finger painting. Some artists paint on the underside of the glass or mirror. In 18th century, French frame maker Jean-Baptist Glomy applied gold leaf, silver leaf and paint to the underside of a sheet of glass, and he named it eglomise glass. Chinese artist Yan Sheng carves the picture on the underside of the mirror. However, bidirectional mirrors are seldom used in creative drawing.
4.Methodology
Literature Research
Study the literature and historical materials about the experience and character of the characters in the world renowned paintings, then speculate their possible different life.
5.Outcomes
The final works may consist of 3-4 paintings on the bidirectional mirrors. Create a darkroom, and embed the paintings in the wall. From the bright outside, the audiences can only see the paintings on the mirror side, in the darkroom, audiences can see two paintings superposed on the transparent side.
6.Work Plan
Step 1. Bidirectional glass experiment and pigments experiment
Test opaque and transparent pigments on the bidirectional mirror. Test if colour sticks to the bidirectional mirror easily. Test if the two layers of painting can be seen clearly from the transparent side.
Step 2. The choice of painting content
Study art history, select the appropriate content of famous paintings for further extension, speculate the characters’ another life possibility.
Step 3. Draw the samples, adjust the technique.
Step 4. Formal painting and complete the product.
Step 5. Exhibition design.
Design and make the darkroom, embed the paintings in the wall.
