Le marché de Nabeul, ou marché du vendredi, est considéré comme l'un des plus grands marchés traditionnels et populaires de Tunisie. C’est avant tout un grand marché alimentaire pour les habitants de Nabeul et sa région. Le marché couvert est le domaine du commerce des viandes (poulet, mouton), des poissons (daurade, espadon, loup, sardines, merlan, seiche), des légumes (pommes de terre, oignons, tomates, aubergines, piment et légumes secs), des fruits (olives, oranges, mandarines ou pommes), des épices, des pains…
Dans les rues de la ville, au printemps, sont vendus des pétales de fleurs présentés dans des cagettes ou sur une bâche au sol. C’est que la distillation des fleurs est une pratique traditionnelle dans le Cap Bon. En mars, les habitants cueillent et distillent les fleurs de bigaradiers pour obtenir l’eau de fleur d’oranger (z’har) utilisée dans la cuisine régionale pour arroser les graines du couscous ou pour la préparation de gâteaux. L’eau de fleurs d'oranger aurait aussi des vertus médicinales pour le cœur, l'asthme, les maux de tête, l'insolation et les maux d'estomac. Les habitants cueillent et distillent aussi les pétales de roses, en avril, pour obtenir l’eau de roses (ward) afin d’aromatiser les entremets sucrés et les pâtisseries. Un kilo de pétales fournit environ 1,5 litre d’eau de roses. En ville, le marché comprend aussi des stands plus touristiques, poteries traditionnelles, robes tunisiennes, chaussures et sacs en cuir, parfums. Mais, pour les dromadaires, il fallait venir au moins cinquante ans plus tôt !
L'amphithéâtre d'El Jem (arabe : مسرح الجم), aussi appelé Colisée de Thysdrus, est un amphithéâtre romain situé dans l'actuelle ville tunisienne d'El Jem, l'antique Thysdrus de la province romaine d'Afrique.
Construit vraisemblablement vers le premier tiers du IIIe siècle, même si sa datation a fait l'objet de débats, il prend la succession de deux édifices du même genre, dont l'étude a permis d'analyser la genèse de ces constructions monumentales destinées aux loisirs. Il a probablement abrité des combats de gladiateurs ainsi que des courses de chars et autres jeux du cirque, mais surtout des exhibitions de bêtes sauvages et des reconstitutions de chasses aux fauves particulièrement prisées.
Selon Jean-Claude Golvin, l'édifice marque avec quelques autres l'apogée de ce genre de monument, au « terme d'une évolution architecturale étalée sur près de quatre siècles ». Cependant, la situation de Thysdrus, avec ses trois amphithéâtres étudiés scientifiquement, « paraît unique au monde » selon Hédi Slim.
Ce « Grand amphithéâtre », le monument romain le plus célèbre de la Tunisie, est l'amphithéâtre le mieux conservé d'Afrique du Nord. Il a fait l'objet d'un classement au patrimoine mondial de l'Unesco en 1979. L'amphithéâtre accueille chaque année environ 530 000 visiteurs
The Nabeul market, or Friday market, is considered one of the largest traditional and popular markets in Tunisia. It is primarily a major food market for the residents of Nabeul and its surrounding region. The covered market is home to meat (chicken, mutton), fish (sea bream, swordfish, sea bass, sardines, whiting, cuttlefish), vegetables (potatoes, onions, tomatoes, eggplant, chili peppers, and pulses), fruit (olives, oranges, tangerines, and apples), spices, bread, and more.
In the streets of the city, in spring, flower petals are sold in crates or on tarpaulins. Flower distillation is a traditional practice in Cap Bon. In March, residents pick and distill bitter orange blossoms to obtain orange blossom water (z'har), used in regional cuisine to sprinkle couscous seeds or to make cakes. Orange blossom water is also said to have medicinal properties for the heart, asthma, headaches, sunstroke, and stomach aches. Locals also pick and distill rose petals in April to obtain rose water (ward) to flavor sweets and pastries. One kilo of petals provides about 1.5 liters of rose water. In town, the market also includes more touristy stalls, traditional pottery, Tunisian dresses, leather shoes and bags, and perfumes. But for the dromedaries, you had to arrive at least fifty years earlier!
