people fail to understand while proofreading any religious document is that it isn’t just about perfect grammar and spelling. While typos are usually laughed off or embarrassing, here, it could mess up not just the message and idea but also fail to convey the passion with which the book was written. It’s not just about the work, it’s also about being sensitive to the sentiment.
Today was my last day at my medical publishing job. What was supposed to be a 3 month temp proofreading gig turned into a two year temp proofreading gig. (Never did get hired on permanently, which was a blessing in disguise, actually.)

This show is so ridiculous. I have a cast recordings playlist, and I smile as soon the opening track to Gutenberg plays.
The premise is two friends (Doug and Bud) who decide to write a musical set in the 1400s about German inventor Johannes Gutenberg…except there isn’t much known about the father of the printing press, so they make stuff up (they call it “historical fiction”). This includes presenting illiteracy as a serious concern when a father fatally gives his infant jelly beans instead of medicine because he couldn’t read the bottle labels. Yeah, it’s that kind of silly.
Andrew Rannells and Josh Gad create the magic on the cast recording. In the show, they are trying to get the attention of a Broadway producer, so they play all the parts in their show by literally wearing multiple hats. I don’t know if I could pinpoint a favorite part, but naming a major female character “Helvetica” in a show about the printing press is up there.

About the Ornament
With two well known Broadway stars leading this show, it isn’t a surprise that their image is used for the show materials—but difficult to reimagine for vinyl…so I didn’t even try.
I used a small two-inch ornament and coated it with orange “cinnamon spice” paint I bought a long time ago to make a Thanksgiving porch sign. I forgot I had it, having recently whined about my lacking orange paint options. Note to self: take stock of your craft supplies every now and then.
The front is simply the stylized title, and the back is the show tagline. Matte white vinyl was used for the front and matte black for the back, with glossy yellow for the proofreading marks.
The bow is made from a yellow satin ribbon with white stripe print. I used a black satin ribbon for the hanger.
This is a pretty simple ornament for me. Besides the cuts being TINY, it’s not that complicated. However, I made this the same day that I feathered a double-headed eagle, so I feel that should be factored in.
On my way home from burger+stella at the Great Escape (while proofreading our paper), I managed to squeeze in this shot. Camera battery almost depleted, so is mine. At least I made my 8th primepic deadline.
Some of us had to work today--that's my laptop in the background, and I had proofreading to do. But a couple of dogs just lounged all day...

April 20: Work day today. I am looking forward to Monday, when I am going to Yosemite with my wonderful friend Annie; there, I (a) will NOT work but (b) will, I hope, find some photographic inspiration. For the next few days, though, my life is pretty much all about work.

A Tasmanian devil baby – like a kangaroo baby – is called a joey. That wasn't the Zoo staff's mistake, either. I told them about both posters and sent these two pictures. Translators proofread everything, even without getting paid. "Tasmania" should have been "Australia" and has now been corrected, but they kept cub since it's more understandable. And Tasmanian devils, like wolves, are carnivores, after all.
