Victoreen Condenser r-Meter Model 70 Radiation Dosimeter
Manufactured by Victoreen Instrument Company in Cleveland, Ohio c.1945
Canada Museum of Science and Technology
Artifact no. 1998.0198
This is a picture of the back of the dosimeter near the bottom and is a sign of use as well as proof of authenticity. The tape indicates that the batteries that light the scale you would look at through the eyepiece were replaced along with the silica gel. This poses the question of if the old silica gel had absorbed some radioactive material or if it had simply absorbed too much moisture to be effective much longer. Either way, it proves the dosimeter was used for quite awhile, especially before 1964.
An interesting side note is that the ink used on the tape appeared to be standard ballpoint ink. We were questioning if ballpoint pens had even been invented by 1964 so we researched "Bic" and it turns out they had just become accessable in the early 1960's so this speaks to the quick success of Bic pens in North America.

Spent today colour proofing an upcoming project on press at Synergie UK. Big thanks to everyone for a thoroughly interesting day, learned so much!
Proof that I am simply here and quite moving forward daily - my quiet corner in the midst of my not so quiet house is where the moving forward is schemed when my corner of the ocean is not to be presently sought out for such conjuring.
This is proof that my house is currently a disaster. Dirty bedding that I was supposed to wash on Sunday is STILL on the floor in the bedroom and dogger has decided it's the bestest bed in town. Sock drawer fell out of the dressed, and pretty much all hell is breaking loose.
Morgan Co. Line- Scribe proofing press. A friend passed this little fella on to me. Needs some grease and rust removal love. Can't wait to rock some little prints off it!
there was great debate whether dominique's jar contained all the items the clue card listed, particularly a washer and a nut. driven by relentless harassment, dominique opened the jar and pored its contents out, once an for all proving that the washer and nut are in the jar. although, i didn't see her put them back in . . .
