This weekend was supposed to mark the peak of the blossoming of the extraordinary Japanese Cherry trees along Washington, D.C.'s Tidal Basin.
However, the forecast was changed to 3-27 thru 3-28 2006 and, alas, all that was visible yesterday (on our walk) was the maddeningly tempting promise of Sakura...kana.
Next weekend will be the occasion most auspicious for "caprturing" our elusive "quarry."
By the way: The Cherry tree with this collection of buds is not one of the original Cheery trees that the Japanese governmentgave to the USA in the 19th Century. Some of the "originals" remain & I'll make sure to get photographs of their gnarled & scarred trunks & branches.
