There was a shadowman
walking through a shadowland.
Tryin' to catch the moon with a rope,
couldn't do it, thought that there was no hope
for him to get into the light,
and that he'd be damned to live in the night.
And he turned his hand into a fist,
but he found he couldn't resist
this feeling of loneliness,
was convinced his life was a mess.
So he lost the grip of his soul.
It left his body and stole
itself away from this house of despair.
Soon it floated on thin waves of air.
And all of a sudden, the colours returned,
for which it had eternally yearned.
First came blue, and an ocean arose
from the depth of a place that nobody knows.
Then came red and green and gold,
drenched in light letting beauty unfold.
And clad in that light was a hand,
so enormous and mighty and grand,
and it caught the floating soul,
held it gently, made it whole
and sent it back again
into that once pitiful man.
He opened his eyes and he knew
that God's promise of life was true.

For this collage, I used a photo I took of the altarpiece by Bernd Zimmer in the Cathedral of Mainz in the sacrament chapel.
Wrote the poem after a concert of Bobby McFerrin and Chick Corea, which was literally inspiring.

Temple of Promise from: San Francisco Bay Area, CA year: 2015
A Temple’s purpose is to provide a safe space where the diverse and essential needs of the soul can take root and grow or surrender and find solace. This year, the Temple of Promise welcomes participants through an archway soaring 97 feet overhead. Once inside, the structure curves in on itself, tapering in width and height down to just 7 feet tall. Along the way, alcoves formed by the supporting arches, as well as wooden sculptures reminiscent of stones in a stream, create altars and semi-private spaces for individuals and smaller gatherings. The lines of the curved wooden walls draw the eye inward and create a canvas for written messages and mementos. As the path continues to curve, it opens into the contemplative altar and the heart of the Temple: a grove of three sculpted trees. The branches are initially bare. Participants will write messages on long strips of cloth and attach them to the trees, creating the gentle shade of Weeping Willows, increasing as the week progresses. I posted awhile ago about the rings I wear here and since then, the rings on my fingers have changed. My engagement ring is the same, but it's the band that's "new" per se. Though it's anything but.
I love my engagement ring, but nothing compares to my wedding band. Drex gave me this band over three years ago, originally as a "promise" ring to me. We had been together only four months and already were so incredibly dedicated to each other. When we got engaged we started discussing wedding bands. I originally wanted two thin diamond bands on either side of my engagement ring but remembered the ring I already was wearing on my right hand. Something about it just seemed perfect. It was the ring that symbolized Drex and I's initial promise to each other, and on our wedding we were simply renewing that promise for all to see.
Promise is Sade's second CD. Like all others, this CD sounds great from start to finish. It's very bluesy/jazzy in comparison to all of her other albums.

Depeche Mode - Should Be Higher (Live in Berlin)
Depeche Mode are an English electronic band that formed in 1980 in Basildon, Essex. The group consists of founders Dave Gahan (lead vocals, occasional songwriter since 2005), Martin Gore (guitar, keyboards, vocals, main songwriter since 1982), and Andy Fletcher (keyboards, bass guitar). Depeche Mode released their debut album Speak & Spell in 1981, bringing the band onto the British new wave scene. Original band member Vince Clarke (keyboards, guitar, main songwriter from 1980 to 1981), left the band after the release of the album, leaving the band as a trio to record A Broken Frame, released the following year. Gore took over the lead songwriting duties and, later in 1982, Alan Wilder (keyboards, drums, bass guitar, occasional songwriter) officially joined the band to fill Clarke's spot, establishing a line up that would continue for the next 13 years. Depeche Mode have been a trio again since 1995, when Wilder left.

The Promise, by Jonathan Alter
www.nytimes.com/2010/05/16/business/16shelf.html
Drawing on interviews with more than 200 people, including Mr. Obama and virtually all principals of the White House staff, Mr. Alter seeks to answer three broad questions: What happened in Year One? What is President Obama really like? And how has he performed so far?
Mr. Alter is well suited to pursue what he conceded was an ambitious goal, before the ink was very dry on Mr. Obama’s initial series of executive orders and bill signatures. A senior editor at Newsweek, Mr. Alter was the author of “The Defining Moment: F.D.R.’s Hundred Days and the Triumph of Hope,” a best seller about the first months of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s presidency during the Great Depression, a time with obvious parallels to the present.
Mr. Alter, who is also a correspondent for NBC News and MSNBC, customarily focuses on politics. But he does a commendable job of clarifying the complex economic issues Mr. Obama faced before and after the 2008 election.

This picture could represent what Moses might have seen from the top of Mt. Nebo, as recorded in Deuteronomy 34:1-8:
"Then Moses climbed Mount Nebo from the plains of Moab to the top of Pisgah, across from Jericho. There the LORD showed him the whole land—from Gilead to Dan, all of Naphtali, the territory of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the western sea, the Negev and the whole region from the Valley of Jericho, the City of Palms, as far as Zoar. Then the LORD said to him, "This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob when I said, 'I will give it to your descendants.' I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not cross over into it."
And Moses the servant of the LORD died there in Moab, as the LORD had said. He buried him in Moab, in the valley opposite Beth Peor, but to this day no one knows where his grave is. Moses was a hundred and twenty years old when he died, yet his eyes were not weak nor his strength gone. The Israelites grieved for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days, until the time of weeping and mourning was over."

"I will be true to the promise I have made to you and to the one who gave you to me" - Steven Curtis Chapman.
This would be my newborn son at about 2 days old. The theme of my page is 'My Promise' to him as his mom. My journaling consists of items that I pledge to provide as his mom throughout his life time & as one of the main influential persons in his life. The journaling is meant for his eyes only. Once he's old enough to comprehend I'll let him read it. Maybe by then he'll also let me know if I'm keeping some of my promises or not!
My journaling is stored in the scroll right beneath the large turquoise flower.

I was going to put "Spring is finally here" as the title, but the sky has clouded over and it no longer looks like spring, LOL. Either way, I was happy to see tiny bunches of Daffodils in Safeway yesterday - so cheap, but so beautiful!
