K-Project - SB00401 - StarBricks

I have set myself a project to find examples of the Alphabet. These are my first efforts. I will endeavour to get one worthwile image per letter in order.

I've been working on several projects lately. One has been some big prints for Manchester Terminal here on the ship channel. It's an old cotton warehouse that is still used for cargo on the ship channel side, but has been converted to office space on the highway side. The whole building is around a million square feet of space. The corridors are so large that the owner wanted really big prints so they wouldn't be dwarfed by the open space. I was pretty spooked about this much enlargement, but I had admired some prints done for the Museum of Fine Arts here in Houston and they put me in contact with Houston Photo Imaging (HPI) who printed and mounted the 8 x 12 foot photo here. When finished we should have about nine of these up.

For those who want tech data, this was shot in July 08 with a Nikon D300 using the 70-200 mm lens at full zoom. It has been slightly cropped. The ppi as printed was only 23 (kudos to HPI).

The old guy is in here to give the photo a sense of scale. My daughters were all booked up. Rie Rasmussen was unavailable as well.

Sometimes the titles of the photos might not add up with the order they appear on Flickr; this is because the pictures are numbered in chronological order and not the order they were uploaded in :)

new year, new projects.

my project: black & white for the livingroom - with a little bit red or yellow.

Project 365 08/12/2017: This is the crystal hummingbird from one of our wind-chimes.

European Starling at the nesting hole. My photo buddy shared her great finds with me today - sadly we think one of these naughty birds destroyed the woodpecker eggs in a nest in an adjacent tree. So no woodpecker nest action for us today.

No good photo today. I got home with no photo taken and I had to go out to run. First day of training after my rest weeks. It's cold outside and dark...but I need to start training again. Selfie photo and run!

Project 4 - Wind 2 of 2 - Black Law Wind Farm.

Entry in the 3 men in a bar photo pool. Black Law is the largest operating windfarm in the UK . The farm comprises 42 three-bladed turbines with a total generation capacity of 97 MW. Taken on the vernal equinox 2009.

It's the year 1944 and the war in France is closely coming to an end. Normandy has been liberated and american, canadian and british troops are on there way to free the rest of the country! Sending bombers and fighters first, the american's are fierce and strong in the attack. Germany obviously want's to keep ground and fight back hard.

Well here are some photo's of Project Aviation, where Stijn, Mats, Jurian and I have been working on.

Also don't forget to check the photo's on Stijn and Mats photostream.

This bronze statue of Tom Joris is a tribute to Bishop Albert Kee (died 2003), preacher and leader of the village district of Bahama in Key West. For decades, he stood along the waterfront to sell fish and blow a conch shell over passing tourists. This tradition dates back to 1830, when the arriving Bahamians were called conch shells (if you were born in Key West, you can call yourself a saltwater conch shell. If you are a new resident, it will take you seven years to get the honor of becoming a freshwater conch). In 1982 Key West declared itself the Republic of Conques when they claimed to secede from the United States. He, and his father before him, left a legacy of 50 years to welcome all those who visited the southernmost point, popularized the conch blowing and were emissaries of the multicultural and multiethnic community that made Key West unique. since its creation. It was there when the old southernmost wooden billboard was replaced by the oversized buoy proclaiming it to be the southernmost point on the American continent. The design of the buoy came from a large floating buoy that marked the entrance to the "black beach". The public can thus remember Kee and the legacy of "old Key West". The sculpture project was carried out in collaboration with the city of Key West and its Art in Public Places Board.

Let's call this one a Grandscape. On the left El Capitain and on the right Half Dome at Yosemite National Park in California. I've been attending a fabulous photo workshop and let's just say I saw some pretty good scapes. More to come.
