My lockdown music has been re-visiting my Genesis/Floyd collections and catching up on Steve Hackett's ouvre.

As well as the stuff I always listen to - Paul Simon/Ralph McTell/Eagles/etc. etc., also been following Clemency Burton-Hill's 'Year of Wonder' classical music suggestions. So which to choose, really . . .

This photograph was taken at dawn this morning at Lower Seletar Reservoir looking towards Orchid Country Club and Heritage Bridge (on the right).

This photograph captured the progressively illuminated and drifting clouds in the dawn sky and the Bridge. The mirror-like surface of the reservoir provided an enchanting view of the serene landscape.

Nós as derrubamos e as

Climate change has been and still is the subject of fierce debate for some years, many saying that there is no such thing as climate change and others professing impending doom.

Climate change is a natural phenomena, it has been since the beginning of time, however, mankind and the way we live our lives is influencing our planet and its climate significantly.

We clearly have to move away from fossil fuels, we need to find a way to deal with our waste products, plastics being dumped at sea is not an answer, the impact upon marine life is dreadful.

So my question is this, if mankind has had such a negative impact upon climate change, do we have enough innovative and progressive ideas and attitudes to be able to repair the damage we have caused?

Nouvelle gare | New station

---------------

Located near the centre of the city of Mons, the station was opened in 1841 by the Belgian State Railways and has been rebuilt three times since then.

The third building, which dated from 1952, was demolished in 2013 to be gradually replaced by a new station, designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava; the budget, planned at 37 million euros in 2006, reached 480 million in 2024 (at the end of the construction), i.e. 13 times the initial amount.

In August 2023, the end of the work on the new station (originally planned for early 2015) was announced for February 2024. In May 2024, the construction site "neared its end".

The new station was finally opened on 18 December 2024 and will be inaugurated on 31 January 2025.

Little Theatre, Gateshead. Built thanks to the generosity of sisters Ruth, Sylvia and M. Hope Dodds, it is believed that the theatre is the only one built in Britain during the war. The building process was interrupted by hostilities after the site was acquired in 1939, being at one time requisitioned as a barrage balloon station, and at another having windows and doors damaged by a bomb falling in Saltwell Park, just across the road. The opening performance in October 1943, was A Midsummer Night's Dream. The theatre is home to the Progressive Players Ltd, who produce ten plays per year, the theatre is also hired by other groups and performers. It seats 188, and has a good-sized stage behind a proscenium arch. It was extended in 2021 to create a new studio for rehearsals and as a potential cabaret space.

I've been trying to get a photo of this Shoveler for some time now and finally managed to get several - I quite like this shot as it highlights his "shovel".

This is a NZ native bird. Shovelers are specialist filter-feeding waterfowl with a large spoon-shaped or shovel-shaped bill that is almost twice as broad at its tip than at its base and which is the bird’s most conspicuous feature. Fine lamellae extend along most of the edge of the upper mandible and it is by pushing water through this lamellae curtain that small plankton and fine seeds are extracted. Australasian shovelers are sexually dimorphic. The males are highly coloured most of the year, when they have a blue-grey head and neck with a distinctive white crescentic band at the base of its large spatulate black bill. The breast is a mottled brown and white after breeding but becomes progressively pure white as the nuptial moult proceeds during May. Its chestnut flank is offset by a large white patch at the tail base. The eye is yellow and the legs bright orange. Females are uniformly mottled light brown with dull brown bill and eye, and brown-orange legs. In flight Australasian shovelers have a distinctive profile with a ridiculously large bill, sharp pointed wings and very rapid wingbeats. The blue, white and green patches on the upper wing contrast with the white underwing. nzbirdsonline.org.nz/species/australasian-shoveler

🇬🇧 1st stop: Termessos is an ancient city whose relatively well-preserved ruins lie 34km north-west of Antalya. It lies at an altitude of 1,050m at the bottom of a gorge that ends in a small plateau wedged between two peaks.

The site of Termessos was inhabited very long ago, as mentioned by Homer in the Iliad. The city seems to have existed long before 1000 BC, when it was part of the Hittite Empire.

Termessos then came under the influence of the Phrygians, Lydians and Persians. With its reputation for fighting spirit and well-protected environment, Termessos was able to resist Alexander the Great's unsuccessful attempt to conquer the city in 334 BC.

After the death of Alexander the Great, Termessos fell under the control of one of his generals, and although it remained very independent, it gradually became Hellenised.
