Had fun doing this, but also kind of glad it's done (and it worked!)!

Just started working on this. Have the basics for the first part of the progression. Still needs some work. But I am glad that I found a VST plugin that works for Cakewalk, as that opens the huge library of soundfonts I've not been able to play with since the 2015 disaster that busted my first Toshiba laptop. Things are looking even better now.

Excerpt from brainproject.ca:

Regrowth

Artist Bryan Belanger pictures the brain as its own ecosystem, one that thrives when healthy and one that can be in danger if it is unattended or overworked. He imagines it to be covered in lush green grass, trees and rivers that flow, all funneling life from place to place. Like our own environment and the current state of our planet, there are places where there is no new growth, where the trees have been cut down and the land has eroded. Belanger has a similar picture in his mind of Alzheimer's and other diseases of the brain.

Luminate

Luminate acts as a signifier that reminds us all of the psychological and physical importance of "lighting up" our environment and creating a positive aura despite the hardships that shadow us with fear. Through its movement, energy and markings, the brain sculpture Luminate suggests that even the smallest mark can make a world of a difference in our interconnected experience.

SYNAPSE

Interconnectedness. Layering. Complexity.

'Weaving' the 'clear' monofilament – layer upon layer and in no particular pattern – draws attention to interconnectedness. The layers of monofilament increase, and become very dense in much the same way that memories are made in the brain. Memories are made and there is potential distortion in remembering.

The nail heads placed in the creases hold together all of the filaments which are absolutely interconnected and made of one single length of material.

Brain Früz

Brain Früz is a a collection of vivid memories awakened by the power of different sensories. It represents hope for a bright and colourful future where thoughts remain crystal clear, lively and coherent.

State of Bliss

Sometimes, we all wish to be floating in warm, blue water with the hot sun kissing our face. State of Bliss captures the feeling of that moment.

Progression – Journey through the Darkness

This photograph exhibits the stark contrast between light (the brightly coloured framework of contours and orbs) and dark (the space between). It is only on our journey through the darkness that we can understand and appreciate the relief of the light. We each have our own internal structure and pattern of light, and it is our unique perception of and personal attachment to these patterns that assist us in making sense of the world, ourselves and those around us.

The TELUS Health Brain Project shines a much-needed light on the importance of cognitive and emotional well-being. Hollend’s work speaks to building that vision of a brighter, healthier future for this generation and those to come. TELUS Health is proud to partner with the Brain Project in support of the Baycrest Foundation for the second consecutive year, because they share in our commitment to create stronger, healthier communities.

The Prosper

Artist Yaron Bob’s sculpture is made from chains and a rocket base. It is a tribute to the place he lives in southern Israel, where these rockets fell. It is named after a dear friend who is going through a rough patch in life. His name is Prosper.

The name seems fitting since it has a double meaning. The artist wishes his friend and everyone in need to "live long and prosper."

In most cases, I do a series of drawings or sketches of my intended subject before creating a mosaic. In this case, the progression was drawing, linoleum cut, mosaic.

Mariah, for Julia Kay's Portrait Party!

My cousin came across these photos of my mother in a box of old photographs and sent them to me. They show her as a baby, little girl and two different looks in young adulthood. What a treasure!

I finally got my computer back. I'm so pumped. The last five days have been so full of anxiety because I haven't been able to post.

However, the silver lining is that I was able to spend some real time on a photograph. I could have even spent more, but it's almost 4am and I have to work in the morning.

This was the first idea I wrote down for this project back in January. I'm really glad to see it come to life. This piece makes me happy.

Big big thanks goes out to my friend Dylan for clothing only his loins in a public park and acting like a fool for the camera. He also made that loin cloth too, did a great f*ing job.

Lastly, thanks to Dylan's dog for being rad.

Tumblr

This is the rest of the sunset on Friday! Note that these were not taken on the bayou but at a park in an open field! Framing??? They could all be better framed but since there is nothing there but open field it is the sky that is the most interesting part of the scene and so that is why I have included as much sky as possible in each shot! It’s just difficult to believe that the Egg Drop Soup turned into the sky in the Grand Finale! At one point I just figured that the whole thing was dying and thought about packing up all of my gear and heading home! Figured that I would stick it out and see what developed! There were some subtle colors behind me but nothing close to what was being displayed by the clouds where the sun was setting!

No trip to the Burg would be complete without venturing to the rural section of the eastern Pittsburgh line just west of Marysville. We are just west of Cove where the old intermediate signals used to be prior to the PTC upgrades.

It didn't really look like this, but those are real images of the sun taken during the eclipse.

The anthers are blowing in the wind.

An eastbound behind SD40-2 5129 heads in to Summit Valley near MP 54 as a w/b, probably the westbound Harbor train, fades into the distance. The class lights have already been removed from 5129, and very soon, that bright red caboose will also be moving along into history.

Trail almost gone 10 days later.

i've been asked, so .... when i saw how ida was looking at me, in the upper left image (i'm sure she was wondering where my mind had drifted off to) my minds eye came up with the previous image in the photostream (see comments) .... and the above images kinda show the progression from reality to the lack of reality my mind seems to thrive on ... lol .... anyway, i like balloons and it seemed reasonable to use one to start re-assembling my head ... then add a few clouds, some textures, a lonely seagull and toss a few drops of orton about, and something new emerges ... simple, huh?

enjoy the rest of the weekend, and GO NINERS !!!

Happy New Year!! Today marks my 10 year anniversary of being a Flickr user... (although my first photo was taken 10 years ago today I didn't upload it until the 10th, so maybe that should be my anniversary?). Either way I should probably have uploaded a more memorable image!

I realise this might be getting a bit boring (though if I were taking macro shots I'd probably upload just as many!!), but the steps toward a photorealistic and believable scene are many and small!

This one is similar to an earlier composition, but has added dust (and quite a lot too) which adds quite a lot of realism I think (certainly if I owned a chess set it would be this dusty). There is more depth to the colour too. Don't want it too bright, as I imagine candlelight or the glow of a coal fire somewhere in the room.

Things can't look too perfect or the eye/brain can spot they are fake - so I understand.
