I love tracking the progress of this amazing building. It changes every time I go to see it, and there is always a new obstacle to go around to try and get to it. This time there was intense security around the site so this is as close as I could get. For anyone new, this is the Coogee Power Station.

Quite a bit has changed since the last one of these I posted, but that's mostly due to my having forgotten to post one for the last 4 months, not because I've been working like crazy on the plane. The right fuel tank is now all done except for the aft baffle and there's a bit more green on the left aileron as well.

Parts shown here in green are complete, yellow are awaiting some final riveting or blending tasks, orange are awaiting primer, and red are works in progress. Uncolored parts haven't yet been worked on.

For more narrative on the project, check out the construction blog.

some parts still missing, build as far as I could with the parts I had

One of the big events of our Saturday was a "Try Skate" event at our local ice rink for kids and adults with physical and cognitive disabilities. My son (who has Trisomy 21 aka Down syndrome) hasn't skated much, so he's a little unsure of balance on skates (heck, I would be too!). Just as at a simlar event 2 years ago he just wanted to have one of the assistants push him around on a chair (it's great fun!). But they have these cool frame things to allow them to have some support. I finally got him to get up for a longer period by bribing (positive consequence!) him with pizza for lunch after! In this picture his assistant isn't even holding onto the frame. Progress!

(FWIW, in addition to cello he actually does quite well with a lot of physical activities: basketball [can shoot really well, including 3 pointers!], running and track and field in general, swimming, softball, other sports, and he rode a bicycle without training wheels *before* he turned 8, which is unheard of for kids with DS! ... but he is hesitant on uneven surfaces, and in skating, he's as reluctant and as likely to fall as any of us who haven't skated. Maybe a bit more because balance in that is SO important and the skates make things so much more awkward.)

Progress shots for my Leekeworld Corin! Sadly I had a mishap with the lips shortly after these photos were taken, so I wiped the faceup :(

A sample of the extreme order and neatness involved mid project.

Here are both sides cut out of foam that will sandwich the thinner wing membrane flaps...this will give a more realistic variety of depth.

Another go at the selective coloring fun, this time trying to take a rather boring shot of the COP sign and giving it a little pop.

Hellblau undersides painted. Spats hand painted in Dunkelgrun and Schwarzgrun!

Congratulations on your inauguration! Canada sends her hopes and best wishes.

Progress? $425 SOLD

Folkestone registered fishing boat 'Progress' seen 2 days after being struck by lightning in a storm off the Thanet coast on April 20th, 2012. Based in Ramsgate, the boat was disabled when lightning hit the radio mast and knocked out all the electrics. It also took out the sea cock and the boat would have sunk but for the use of a hammer and cloth jammed into the hole. One of the crew (Ben) said that the strike sounded like a loud 'ring'

This from the BBC:

The crew of a fishing boat struck by lightning were "extremely lucky" to escape injury, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) has said.

The lightning shattered glass in the wheelhouse, destroyed all electrical equipment on board and disabled the engine of the Progress off Kent.

The two crew members escaped unhurt because they were on the deck of the boat, the MCA said.

The incident happened off North Foreland, Ramsgate.

The crew summoned help using a mobile phone.

Ramsgate RNLI lifeboat towed the vessel back to shore where the crew were met by a Coastguard rescue team.

"The crew of this fishing vessel were extremely lucky," said Dover Coastguard watch manager Bob Giles.

"They were fishing in an area with mobile phone reception and so still had a way to call for help when the lightning strike blew out their communications equipment."
