Students explore the vast Shark Valley slough on a narrated, open-air tram tour and hike to the observation tower for a bird's eye view. Alligators, wading birds, turtles, and fish are just a few of the residents commonly encountered. Students learn about the Everglades watershed and their own connections to the south Florida ecosystem.

25 volunteers showed up for a fun evening of appreciation on Feb. 9. Volunteers gave close to 3,000 hours in 2016 and helped with completion of 30 projects and helping in the Seedling Tree Nursery.

The Seabiscuit program took place on August 2003 at Countryside.
Seabiscuit's former jockey lives locally and he described the world of thoroughbred racing in the 1930s when Seabiscuit was the “all-star” of all time. He shared a scrapbook filled with his racing career highlights and shared many memories. The library was filled to capacity that day.

NEWPORT, R.I. – International students assigned to the U.S. Naval War College (NWC) are greeted by NWC President Rear Adm. Pete Garvin during a welcome ceremony August 14, 2023. Students from the Naval Command College and Naval Staff College along with their families and sponsors, were welcomed by NWC faculty and staff as they begin their 11-month residential programs in Newport. The programs are designed to build trust, confidence, and cooperation between American and international officers while building enduring friendships and partnerships amongst students and their families. Established in 1884, NWC informs today’s decision-makers and educates tomorrow’s leaders by providing educational experiences and learning opportunities that develop their ability to anticipate and prepare strategically for the future, strengthen the foundations of peace, and create a decisive warfighting advantage.
