Renaissance Minority Male Mentoring Program {3MP} is a platform that provides comprehensive activities that promotes the personal development, academic improvement and other social and educational advancement needs of our minority male students at Winston-Salem State University. The program was originally developed to increase retention rates among minority males, but we realized that all of our males need assistance in different academic, social, and professional areas. So, this program is designed to provide the inspiration and motivation that they need to reach their goals. At the same time, it creates an unwavering brotherhood that supports and expects academic excellence without excuse.
Mission Statement
Renaissance Minority Male Mentoring Program {3MP} is designed to meet the needs of a targeted group of incoming underrepresented/underserved male freshman and transfer students. The program will focus on retention/academic readiness, mentorship, identity/self-esteem, leadership, community involvement, servant leadership, volunteerism, and cultural enrichment, serves in transforming the culture of all males at Winston-Salem State University by reaching their hearts and minds through mentoring relationships and cohort experiences.
Vision
Students in the Renaissance Program will be prepared and commissioned to model the mission of the program and positively influence their peers.

Kids from Phelps Luck Elementary School in Columbia, MD and the Matnas Community Arts Center in Sapir, Israel participated in a year long literacy and cultural arts program. They wrote stories, illustrated them, and performed through an ancient Japanese storytelling technique called Kamishibai. On June 10, 2009 the two groups of kids shared and performed their stories over a live web chat.
