During a Native American history-themed sleepover at the National Archives in Washington, DC, 101 kids and their grown-ups spent the night enjoying history-related activities, learning from special guests actor Martin Sensmeier, Jim Thorpe historians Bob Wheeler and Flo Ridlon, and Native American storyteller Perry Ground. After sleeping over night in the Rotunda, participants enjoyed a pancake breakfast made by the Archivist of the United States, David S. Ferriero, on October 14, 2018.

Public & Artist Interactions: The Modernist Studio with Corey D’Augustine

Visitors attended a day-long studio workshop by independent instructor, artist, and conservator Corey D’Augustine in March and April. Participants were introduced to working in abstraction and expressionism through employing the painting techniques of the period, drawing inspiration from artists such as Robert Delaunay, Henri Matisse, Kazimir Malevich, Vasily Kandinsky, Ernst Ludwig and Franz Marc. As part of the workshop, participants visited The Great Upheaval: Modern Art From the Guggenheim Collection, 1910–1918 to view works of art in person, then moved to the studio to paint a small canvas based on these works. NASHVILLE, Tenn--Nashville Mayor Karl Dean announces in a press conference at the Metro Center on Feb. 15, 2011 that a joint team comprised of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Nashville District, representatives from the Metro Government, including the Mayor's Office, Metro Water Services, the Office of Emergency Management and Metro Public Works has been assembled to develop a unified flood preparedness program to lessen the damages that could be caused by future flood events in Nashville and Davidson County. The Dental Program has just started, and so families are coming to find assistance. A trip to a dentist is expensive in Iraq, and because of the war they haven't had the opportunity to be assisted my dentists. These treatments are free to the students and beneficiaries of this Family Center.

On April 22, 14 girls and two coaches from Brazil who are a part of "Las Estrellas," a sports, leadership and English program, came to Knoxville, TN as part of the U.S. Department of State Empowering Women and Girls through Sports Initiative. After the first day, they had already experienced University culture by participating in Dr. Ashleigh Huffman's Service-Learning class and eating in the cafeteria.
Because there are very few nutritional experts in the Philippines, VFV initiated this project to address this health problem. The current high incidence of premature deaths, hypertension, diabetes, and other illnesses will decrease with good nutritional practices.
