A distinguished journalists’ discussion commemorating 50 years of EWC media programs

Featuring Keynote Speakers:
Graeme Wood, national correspondent for The Atlantic, spoke on “ISIS Goes East: The Caliphate in Southeast Asia.” Wood wrote the magazine’s acclaimed report “What ISIS Really Wants.” His new book, The Way of the Strangers: Encounters with the Islamic State, recounts the lives and beliefs of ISIS supporters from the U.S., Japan, Australia, Middle East and Europe. Wood was a EWC Jefferson Fellow in 2009.
John Nery, Associate Editor and Opinion Columnist at the Philippine Daily Inquirer, spoke on “The Growth of ISIS in Mindanao.” Born in Mindanao, he is an award-winning investigative journalist, author and book editor, and represents the Inquirer Group on the Executive Board of the Asia News Network. Nery was a 2005 EWC Jefferson Fellow.

Aneela Khalid, a broadcast and print journalist from Pakistan who has covered terrorism and other issues in that country’s tribal areas for domestic and international news outlets. She was a 2012 EWC Pakistan-U.S. Journalists Exchange fellow.
Moderated by Bill Dorman, Hawaii Public Radio news director and 2015 EWC Korea-U.S. Journalists Exchange fellow.
