Des Moines Public Schools welcomed Iowa Women’s Basketball star Hannah Stuelke and Dr. Travis Gayles, Chief Health Officer of Hazel Health, to Edmunds Elementary School on Tuesday, July 17th to present a new youth mental health service. Stuelke and Gayles were joined by Katie Issa, behavioral health coordinator at DMPS, for a roundtable discussion about the importance of providing mental health needs of students followed by a demonstration of the new service. Hazel Health, thanks for financial support from UnitedHealthcare, will provide virtual access to mental health services for up to 100,000 students in Des Moines and across Iowa. Following the demonstration Stuelke connected with students in a summer program at Edmunds for some autographs and selfies.

Mariela Cortez, of LA County Dept. of Mental Health, engages with people experiencing homelessness under the Artesia Bridge during an Encampment Resolution operation in Compton, January 9, 2024. During the Encampment Resolution Operation, LAHSA and HOPICS outreach teams enrolled individuals experiencing homelessness into interim housing with the Pathway Home Program at a motel in Long Beach.
The City of Compton has been awarded a $12M appropriation from the State of California to repair the Artesia bridge, and the construction will begin the second week of January 2024. Therefore, LAHSA, LASD-HOST, SSG-HOPICS, and CEO-Homeless Initiative have been working together with the City of Compton to identify a By Name List of unsheltered PEH residing under the Artesia Bridge and near Compton Creek to make sure we offer them a pathway to permanent housing before the site closes.
LA County is utilizing two motel-based interim housing sites within ten miles of the encampment zone, which are both located in the City of Long Beach (SD4) - with the assumption that those sites will be used to address encampments in Long Beach during future operations.
DHS is working with SSG-HOPICS will provide case management at the motel-based interim housing sites, and LAHSA is coordinating the Housing Navigation and Time-Limited Subsidy support for the participants.
LAHSA and LASD-HOST are coordinating with all outreach partners to align messaging and transportation to ensure we can bring prioritized individuals from the By Name List with their belongings and documents accounted for before transporting them to the interim housing site for program intake.
In addition, this operation includes significant involvement of the Army Corps of Engineers, Animal Care and Control, and the Department of Public Works.

Prosperidad Social aumentó en 258 por ciento la cobertura de sus programas de inclusión productiva en Santander, durante este cuatrienio, informó el director (e) de Prosperidad Social, Pierre García Jacquier.
Familias en su Tierra, Iraca, Mi Negocio, Emprendimiento Colectivo, ReSA y Manos que Alimentan son programas que hacen parte de la Dirección de Inclusión Productiva de la entidad. Atienden a individuos, hogares y organizaciones. “Los de intervenciones colectivas, por ejemplo, atendían a 231 hogares y 11 organizaciones beneficiadas, al iniciar el período del gobierno (agosto de 2018). A mayo de 2022, hay 7.619 hogares y 31 organizaciones participantes. Este es un incremento sin precedentes”, dijo García Jacquier.
García visitó dos municipios de Santander, este jueves y viernes: asistió a un mercado campesino organizado por el programa Familias en su Tierra, en Rionegro, y recorrió obras en Floridablanca. Allí se refirió también al impacto de los cinco programas de transferencias monetarias en la reducción de la pobreza en Santander: Familias en Acción, Jóvenes en Acción, Ingreso Solidario, Devolución de IVA y Colombia Mayor.
Según el DANE, entre 2020 y 2021, estos programas tuvieron un impacto positivo de 3,4 puntos porcentuales en la reducción de la pobreza monetaria, y de 3,2 puntos porcentuales en la reducción de la pobreza extrema, en Santander. “Cuando inició el gobierno del presidente Duque, había 170.000 titulares de los programas de transferencias monetarias en el departamento: 91.988 de Familias en Acción (el titular representa a todo el hogar), 4.522 en Jóvenes en Acción y 75.239 en Colombia Mayor. Hoy tenemos 485.000 titulares en los programas, incluyendo los dos creados durante este gobierno: Ingreso Solidario y Devolución del IVA”, explicó García.
El mercado campesino en Rionegro fue el jueves, organizado por Familias en su Tierra: es un programa de la entidad enfocado en la estabilización socioeconómica de hogares víctima de desplazamiento forzado, que han sido reubicados o retornados a sus lugares de origen. En Santander, atiende a 480 hogares en los municipios Rionegro (320 hogares) y Puerto Wilches (160). Es la primera vez que el programa se ejecuta en Rionegro. La inversión para esta operación del programa en Santander es de 3.127 millones de pesos.
Milena Marín es integrante de la asociación Aroma de Paz, integrada por mujeres víctimas del conflicto, que se dedica a la elaboración de productos con chocolate. Asistió al mercado campesino, y contó que el acompañamiento de Familias en su Tierra les sirvió para fortalecer las huertas caseras en las casas y en las fincas, y les ofreció elementos para mejorar la producción agropecuaria. “La capacitación también fue muy buena, para pensar en cómo poner el negocio a prosperar. Toda la ayuda fue importante para transformar nuestros emprendimientos. Se dieron cuenta de que somos familias dedicadas a transformar nuestra situación”, dijo.
El viernes, en Floridablanca, García recorrió obras de pavimentación que la entidad cofinanció con el gobierno local, en los barrios José A. Morales, La Cumbre, Altos de Villabel, Villa Helena, Portal de Santana, Altos de Florida y Prados del Sur. Son algo más de 1,2 kilómetros de vías, que benefician a 50.500 personas de estratos 1 y 2, entre las que se encuentra población víctima de la violencia y población en situación de discapacidad. Costaron 3.650 millones de pesos, incluyendo interventoría, de los que la entidad invirtió 2.544 millones de pesos. La Alcaldía aportó el 50 por ciento del valor de ejecución, equivalente a 1.106 millones de pesos.

The space program developed in the context of the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union. Each country sent people into space to show its system's superiority over its rival's.
This exhibit at the Henry Ford Museum is titled "Apollo: When We Went to the Moon", but it includes the historical background of the space program (starting with the Cold War) and also contains items from the Soviet space program.
This was inside a fake elevator that had a foam yoga block and a rail inside. There was a button you could press to hear a soothing voice instruct you on what pose to do and then tell you to visualize a random color after each pose. I did the first 3 poses then it occurred to me "Oh god what if someone walks in on me doing this". So then I just stood and listened for a bit and 2 people did walk over.
