I ran across this procession Sunday that included a decorated horse and coffin and banners and people beating their chests and singing. It seems to be related to the festival of Ashura, marking the martyrdom of Husayn ibn Ali in Shi'a Islam, but from what I can tell that was supposed to be around January 8 this year, so I don't know why this was happening on February 21.
The procession ends up here in front of the basilica. Prayers are spoken and sung in many languages, especially Hail Mary, which is repeated regularly throughout the hour that the procession takes.

E' accompagnata dai Germani (dallo spagnolo Hermanos, cioè fratelli), dalle consorelle, da "Is Babballottus" (tutti in abito bianco con il cappuccio, detto "Sa Visiera", simbolo di penitenza), che suonano "Is Matraccas", da altri "Babballottus" collaterali con Varita, e da giovani che aprono la processione con "Is Matracconis" (uguali alle matraccas, ma di enormi dimensioni, portati sempre da 2 persone), seguiti dai tamburi sordi della parte iniziale della processione, che contrasta per il silenzio della parte finale con la statua della Madonna e i Germani
