A procession of various floats through the small town, with lots of children dressed up, samba bands playing, and fun being had all round. It was very interesting to see, and we were there purely by chance.
Como, durante il periodo del confinamento. Lunghe file davanti ai supermercati come ai tempi di guerra, con la psicosi di non riuscire ad accaparrarsi il cibo. Eppure, ve lo assicuro, i supermercati sono sempre stati fornitissimi! E pochi giorni prima della Pasqua le file erano lunghissime, non solo davanti ai supermercati, ma anche davanti ai negozi di alimentari più raffinati (e più cari) di Como... e poi ci si lamenta che in Lombardia siamo ridotti alla miseria per colpa della sinistra... sic, che pregiudizi inattaccabili! E con le chiese chiuse, ho potuto assistere alle "vere" processioni contemporanee, quelle davanti ai centri commerciali. Come scriveva Pasolini, la nuova società dei consumi nata nel dopoguerra ha cambiato completamente l'Italia con un genocidio culturale senza precedenti.

Local Police offered a procession of Tribute to Bristol’s own Gary Powell on Friday, March 2, 2018. As Pastor Sheets pronounced to the family and friends of Gary Powell on Fri. March 2, 2018, “This is not a funeral - this is a celebration of the life of a man who left an impression on everyone he met.” Family, friends and all whom he met in his journey on Earth learned a life lesson from him. His wife Linda Powell and his children, grandchildren and stepchildren will attest that he was also a well-loved man. He was the local Coin Man who could teach you something you didn’t even know that you needed to know. He was retired from the Bristol Police Dept., and he loved his old police car so much that he bought it when the Town sold it, and would drive it in the Homecoming Parade. At the family luncheon held Friday afternoon, the family raised their glasses of his favorite diet Red Pop in a joyful toast of love for him. Just the Facts: Gary R. Powell, Nov. 30, 1940 to February 24, 2018. He passed away at The Maples in Goshen, IN. He owned the Interstate Coin Exchange in Bristol and was a retired Reserve Officer of the Bristol Police Department. Memorial contributions may be given to the Bristol Indiana Police Dept. Reserves.

is the capital of the autonomous community of Galicia in northwestern Spain.
The city has its origin in the shrine of Saint James the Great, now the city's cathedral, as destination of the Way of St. James, a leading Catholic pilgrimage route originated in the 9th century. In 1985 the city's Old Town was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Toponym
Santiago is the local Galician evolution of Vulgar Latin Sanctu Iacobu "Saint James". As for Compostela, it comes, according to legend, from the Latin Campus Stellae (i.e. "Field of the Star"); it seems unlikely however that this could yield the modern Compostela under normal evolution from Latin to Galician-Portuguese. Other etymologies derive the name from Latin compositum, local Vulgar Latin Composita Tella, meaning "burial ground"; or simply from Latin compositellam, meaning "the well composed one" . Other sites in Galicia share this toponym, akin to Compostilla in the province of León.

Santiago de Compostela é a capital da Galiza, localiza-se na província da Corunha, de área 223 km² com população de 93 712 habitantes (2007) e densidade populacional de 416,70 hab/km².
É uma cidade mundialmente famosa pela sua catedral de fachada barroca onde acorrem os peregrinos que perfazem os Caminhos de Santiago de maneira a depararem-se com o túmulo de Sant'Iago, um dos apóstolos de Jesus Cristo, cujo corpo se diz que foi trasladado para aquele lugar.
História
No território que atualmente ocupa a catedral existia um povoado romano, que se tende a identificar como a mansão romana de Aseconia, que existiu entre a segunda metade do século I e o século V. O povoado desapareceu mas permaneceu uma necrópole que esteve em uso, provavelmente, até o século VII.
O nascimento de Santiago, como se conhece agora, está ligada à descoberta (presumível) dos restos do Apóstolo Santiago entre 820 e 835, à elevação do nível religioso dos restos, à Universidade e, mais recente, à capitalidade da Galiza.
Segundo a tradição medieval, como aparece pela primeira vez na Concórdia de Antealtares (1077), o eremita Paio alertado por luzes noturnas, que se produziam no bosque de Libredão, avisou o bispo de Iria Flavia, Teodomiro, que descobriu os restos de Santiago Maior e de dois dos seus discípulos, no lugar que posteriormente se levantaria Compostela, topônimo que poderia vir de Campus Stellae, isto é "campo de estrelas", ou mais provavelmente de Composita Tella, "terras bem ajeitadas", eufemismo de cemitério; ou mesmo "[Ja]Com[e A]postol[u]"). A descoberta propiciou que Afonso II das Astúrias, necessitado de coesão interna e apoio externo para o seu reino, fizera uma peregrinação que anunciou no interior do seu reino e no exterior, a um novo lugar de peregrinação da cristandade num momento em que a importância de Roma decaíra e Jerusalém não era acessível por estar em poder dos muçulmanos.
Pouco a pouco foi-se desenvolvendo a cidade, primeiro estabeleceu-se uma comunidade eclesiástica permanente a cargo dos restos atopados formada pelo bispo de Iria e os monges de San Paio de Antealtares, espontaneamente assentou-se uma população heterogênea, ainda que fundamentalmente estava formada por emigrantes procedentes das aldeias próximas, que foi aumentando à medida que se desenvolvia a peregrinação por razões religiosas por todo o ocidente peninsular, reforçado pelo privilégio concedido por Ordonho II no ano 915 pelo que se estabelecia que quem quer que permanecer quarenta dias sem ser reclamado como servo passava a ser considerado como um homem livre com direito a residir em Compostela. A cidade foi destruída por Almançor em 10 de Agosto do ano 997, que tão só respeitou a sepultura do apóstolo. Após a volta dos habitantes começou a reconstrução, o bispo Cresconio, a meados do século XI, dotou a cidade dum cinto de fossas e uma muralha como medida defensiva.
No ano 1075 deu-se início à construção da catedral românica refletindo, de imediato, no aumento da peregrinação à Compostela, definindo-a como um lugar de referência religiosa na Europa. Com esse aumento, sua importância, que se vê recompensada também politicamente, tornando-a, na época do Arcebispo Xelmírez, à categoria de metropolitana compostelana (1120). Entre os séculos XII e XIII foi-se artilhando a rede de ruas dentro do recinto amuralhado. A chegada da Peste Negra à cidade seguido de uma forte recessão demográfica, a partir de 1380 recuperou a população e no século XV tinha entre 4.000 e 5.000 habitantes.
A fundação da Universidade no século XVI dá-lhe um novo impulso à atração de Santiago, em particular na Galiza, a qual continuará tendo ainda apesar da descida relativa da importância da cidade.
O estabelecimento da autonomia da Galiza fixado pela capital galega, obtendo como consequência um novo pulo no fim do século XX que contrastou amplamente a descida relativa da importância como cidade universitária ao criarem-se as universidades de Vigo e Corunha.
