It was designed by Patrick Hodgkinson[2] in the mid-1960s, based on studies by Leslie Martin.[3] It was initially planned as a private development at a time when private, mixed-use development in the UK was rare. Building started in 1967 and was completed in 1972, though the building fell some way short of its intended size. The original plan extended up to Euston Road but the Ministry of Defence would not release the site of a building they leased for use by the Territorial Army (and that still stands next to the Centre today)[citation needed].
After failing to attract sufficient private buyers on time, the residential section was leased to the London Borough of Camden for use as council housing, while the developer retained ownership of the structure and shopping areas. The exterior of the building was never painted because the Borough could not afford to complete work on the building after they took control. In Hodgkinson's design, the blocks would have been painted cream, a shade typical of the Georgian period, as a homage to the terraced houses that previously stood on the site and those that still surround it.
Despite being widely disliked by those who are unsympathetic to modernist architecture, it achieved Grade II status in 2000. By this time, however, many of its shop premises were unoccupied. Plans for renovation had repeatedly been blocked by residents' committees but in November 2002, the £22 million project began. This included the painting of the blocks in their originally-planned colour and the commissioning of artist Susanna Heron to introduce water features to the central space.[4][2] The major work was completed in late 2006 with the opening of branches of several high street chain stores and restaurants. The dual management has caused problems though, as the landlord restored the structure of the estate but the council is responsible for maintenance of the residential properties - so while the concrete structure was restored, the windows remained untouched, detracting from the overall aesthetic of the development. In 2007, the council started work on replacing the windows that has resulted in the residents having scaffolding outside their flats for the second time in just a few years.
Now referring to itself as The Brunswick, the centre contains 560 flats, various shops, cafés and restaurants, a Waitrose supermarket, and the Renoir Cinema (one of London's Curzon Cinemas group).

I have the experience of my screen flickering and failing about twenty minutes into using ny NikonJ1. I decided to see if I could video this happening to share it with Nikon and you. The screen flickers and then goes blank. The camera is very warm on the left side when this happens. Turning it off for a few minutes allows the screen to work again. Then the flicker and failure happens again. It happens with the camera set to 50hz and 60hz flicker reduction. ...and Yes, I am using a memory card from the approved memory card list.

Blipfoto post for Tuesday 24 August 2010: Problem Solved
On my way to work today I realised that I had completely forgot that today was my 365th Blip and I hadn't planned a special shot as I did for my 100th, 200th and 300th Blips. What an idiot...to get the whole way through the year and FORGET to plan such a big event!
Then as I was pondering my stupidity the roadsign that I had blipped yesterday came into view.....and I couldn't believe my eyes....PROBLEM SOLVED!! Obviously someone in the roads department must be a subscriber and had come to my rescue with a celebratory traffic sign! So I stopped, leapt out of the car and grabbed the Blip. Photo safetly in the camera I rushed home to post my miraculous Blip...then I had my doubts....surely I must have imagined the whole thing? Then I remembered the comment from Instography on yesterdays Blip pointing me to the Traffic Scotland website which shows the live text on these variable road signs...so I checked it out...and sure enought there it was, in black and white, confirmation that it was true! And we all know the Internet never lies!
Well now that I have my 365th Blip 'in the can' I can look back on he past year. I joined Blipfoto to improve my photography and I can honestly say that it's worked as I've come a long way since the beginning and met a lot of great people along the way (both online and in the flesh at Blipfoto events). So thanks to everyone that has made the past year so enjoyable...folks at Blipcentral and fellow blippers alike.
When I started this journal I was worried that I'd never be able to keep going....now I'm worried I can't stop!!!!

Yes, two exposures, actually 2 problems trying to do this, 10 stops difference in exposure and flare, so the eclipse itself is shot with a 200mm + 2x converter + 10 stop ND, the landscape with 24mm PC-E tilt shift, then I've shrunk the eclipse to be the same size as the sun in the original shot. I've tried to keep the light as it was, there was a lot of haze on Dartmoor this week, and the light during the eclipse was bright but not bright "enough" for the colour of it compared to when there is no eclipse, so I've tried to keep that coolness here.
