Old infrastructure problem at Albani Falls Dam in Oldtown, Idaho. The gate is just about rusted through, and the others are not far behind, apparently. There is about a 15' difference in water level between the 2 sides, creating quite the rush of water! This is the Pend Oreille River, which carries much of the rain and snowmelt water from the NW Rocky Mountains to the Columbia River, and then to the Pacific Ocean.

Durch diverse Probleme in Regensburg konnte die Schwandorfer Übergabe erst später fahren. Am 11.06.2025 war als Zuglok DE18 140 eingeteilt. Inzwischen frage ich mich, ob das die einzige Lok ist, die hier in der Gegend fährt.
Hier fährt der Zug an der bekannten Anrufschranke in Zeitlarn vorbei.

Überbelichtung ca. 2 Blenden, ermittelt mit Heiland Splitgrade Controller (Papierspeicher Festgradationspapier).
SE5 Lith (A+B+D+water) 50+50+10+1000ml 7:30 minutes.
Hinweise für die Verarbeitung.
Bei Entwicklungszeiten über 10 Minuten können sich Snowballs bilden. Versucht man durch längere Belichtungszeit auf eine kürzere Entwicklungszeit zu kommen, verstärkt sich das Problem, falls die Überbelichtung dann schon über 2,5 bis 3,5 Blenden liegt. In solchen Fällen ist es erfolgversprechender, den Entwickler etwas fetter einzustellen, oder den Gehalt an Lith D zu reduzieren.
Hinweis zur Trocknung auf Sieben.
Dieses Papier ist relativ schwach gehärtet. Bei der Trocknung auf Sieben mit der Schichtseite nach unten kann es zu Schichtverletzungen mit punktuellen Siebmustern kommen.
Processing instructions.
Snowballs may form during development times exceeding 10 minutes. Attempting to achieve a shorter development time by increasing the exposure time will exacerbate the problem if the overexposure already exceeds 2.5 to 3.5 f-stops. In such cases, it is more promising to adjust the developer to be slightly richer or to reduce the Lith D content.
Note on drying on screens.
This paper is relatively weakly hardened. When drying on screens with the coated side facing down, the coating may be damaged, resulting in selective screen patterns.
Soms gaat alles niet zoals je verwacht dat gaat. De 1824 zou vandaag deze trein gaan ophalen in Zutphen vanaf Amersfoort, alleen door een technisch probleem strandde deze loc bij Stroe. De 1740 werd opgetrommeld als reddende engel, maar niet van de 1824, maar als vervanger van deze loc. Zo kwam het dat ik 2 uur te vroeg langs het spoor stond en weer huiswaarts kon gaan. De dienstregeling was met +120 opgeschoven. Dat gaf me wel de gelegenheid om een andere plek te zoeken.
De loc zou dus eerst los van Amersfoort naar Zutphen gaan, daar de trein aanhaken, naar Deventer Goederenemplacement rijden, omlopen en weer terug naar Zutphen en dan verder naar Roosendaal. De logica ontgaat mij daarvan, maar het zal vast iets met omlopen in Zutphen te maken hebben, dat dat daar niet kan.
Enfin, voor mij alleen maar beter. Ik had bedacht in de boog bij Joppe te gaan staan, daar zou de zon rond 15 uur mooi staan. Helaas had ik mij dus een uur vergist, want de passage was 14u en de zon was verdwenen achter de wolken. Ook is er bij de overweg van de Flierderweg geen eer meer te behalen aan het maken van een mooie foto omdat er opeens allemaal rare borden, electrakasten en hekken geplaatst zijn. Dat was hier nog niet het geval.
Gelukkig was ik met de auto en had ik bij hoge uitzondering een trap bij me zodat ik langs de beek (Fliert) richting het spoor kon lopen en met de trap iets hoger kon staan. Wel jammer van de vieze nette schoenen die ik aan had (faal), maar je moet er wat voor over hebben. Door gebrek aan een zonnetje een vrij fletse foto helaas en wellicht ook niet helemaal scherp, maar ik ben er content mee.
Hier rijdt de trein bij Joppe richting Zutphen met meerdere geluidssignalen.
Bemerkung: Die Aufnahme entstand mit einer Nikon F2 Photomic auf Ilford HP5 Plus. Durch einen Laborfehler (nicht der Sekretär) ist er Film leider beschädigt. Der Sekretär hat sich aber entschieden, die Bilder - soweit möglich - dennoch zu verwenden. In gewisser Weise sind die Effekte sogar interesant...

I have seen this Agile wallaby in my backyard a few times. I have spoken to the local wildlife carer and he said that the missing arm and the deformed arm was probably caused by a dingo attack. She must find it difficult to get around because they do use their arms for mobility when they are not hopping with their legs and also cleaning themselves.

La véritable photographie ICM est une manière créative de photographier qui implique la technique des mouvements intentionnels de votre appareil photo pendant l’exposition !
Quant à sa manipulation dans Photoshop pour obtenir l’effet ICM, elle est souvent rejetée par les vrais photographes ICM !!!
Souvent, les gens veulent savoir les paramètres, comment est réalisée la photographie ICM en demandant les données EXIF d’une image spécifique qu’ils ont vue en ligne, dans l’espoir de reproduire la même photo !
Mais le problème est que dans le domaine de la photographie ICM, les données EXIF (les données montrant les paramètres de l’appareil photo pendant l’exposition) n’ont aucun sens sans savoir quelle intensité et quelle direction de mouvement a été appliquée, quelles étaient les conditions d’éclairage et si oui, quel filtre ND a été utilisé !
Et surtout, quel était l’objectif du photographe ?
Dans la pratique, la meilleure façon de se familiariser avec la technique ICM est de régler son appareil photo sur une sensibilité ISO et une ouverture fixes, en utilisant un filtre ND de votre choix, comme par ex. un ND64, et commencez simplement à prendre des photos en utilisant un seul objet avec pas trop de vitesses d’obturation différentes, et d’intensité et/ou de direction de mouvement différentes …
La comparaison des résultats pourrait vous donner une idée de la manière d’aborder vos prochains clichés 🤔
Sachez que maîtriser la technique ICM est souvent une question d’essais et d’erreurs, et cela peut prendre des dizaines de photos pour obtenir le résultat souhaité !
Ne soyez pas surpris si vous rentrez à la maison avec plus de 100 clichés pris, n’en laissant qu’une petite poignée répondant à vos critères 😕

Alle bisherigen Versuche, das Snowball-Problem chemisch in den Griff zu bekommen, brachten nicht den erhofften Erfolg. Der Spezialentwickler für Fomatone hatte mit einigen früheren Chargen funktioniert, mit den letzten Chargen kam die Frustration zurück.
Versuche der letzten Tage deuten darauf hin, dass die aktuellen Chargen eine starke Überbelichtung nicht mehr verkraften. Um den Grad der Überbelichtung zu bestimmen, ist der erste Schritt ein konventionell entwickelter Print (normalerweise schätze ich die Belichtungszeit für Lithprints).

Nr. 1 Fomatone 132 (Charge 080348-01) in Meritol.
Nr. 2 eine mindestens 25 Jahre alte Charge Fomatone (014326/1 exp. X.2002) Überbelichtung für Lith 3,5 Blenden, (15+15+5+700 ml) Entwicklungszeit 8 Minuten.
Nr. 3 Fomatone 132 (Charge 080348-01) Überbelichtung +1,5 Blenden (30+30+10+600 ml) Entwicklungszeit 6,5 Minuten – Ergebnis: etwas farbiger als Meritol, aber kein wirklicher Litheffekt. Ein stärker verdünnter Entwickler (wie bei Nr. 2) würde zu einer längeren Entwicklungszeit mit erwartbarer Snowball Bildung führen.
Für eine höhere Farbigkeit wird eine längere Belichtungszeit benötig, was dann aber eine höhere Entwicklerverdünnung erfordert oder mehr bremsendes D.
NR. 4 Überbelichtung +2 Blenden (30+30+10+800 ml ) Entwicklungszeit 7 Minuten – Ergebnis: heftige Snowballs.
Fazit: Fomatone-Lithprints mit hoher Farbigkeit, wie früher selbstverständlich, sind zur Zeit nicht möglich.
Aus aktueller Fertigung bleibt also nur noch Foma Retrobrom für farbige Lithprints.
Nr. 5 Retrobrom 152 Überbelichtung 3 bis 3,5 Blenden (30+30+10+800 ml) Entwicklungszeit 10 Minuten – auch bei diesem Papier können sich Snowballs zeigen, allerdings erst bei längeren Entwicklungszeiten, oder stärkerer Überbelichtung.
All previous attempts to chemically solve the snowball problem have not been as successful as hoped. The special developer for Fomatone worked with some earlier batches, but with the latest batches, frustration returned.
Tests conducted over the last few days indicate that the current batches can no longer cope with severe overexposure. To determine the degree of overexposure, the first step is to produce a conventionally developed print.
From left to right.
No. 1 Fomatone 132 (batch 080348-01) in Meritol.
No. 2 A batch of Fomatone at least 25 years old (014326/1 exp. X.2002) Overexposure for lith 3.5 f-stops, (15+15+5+700 ml) Development time 8 minutes.
No. 3 Fomatone 132 (batch 080348-01) overexposure +1.5 f-stops (30+30+10+600 ml) development time 6.5 minutes – result: slightly more colourful than Meritol, but no real lith effect. A more diluted developer (as in No. 2) would result in a longer development time with expected snowball formation.
A longer exposure time is required for higher colour saturation, but this then requires a higher developer dilution or more slowing Lith D.
No. 4 Overexposure +2 f-stops (30+30+10+800 ml) development time 7 minutes – Result: severe snowballs.
Conclusion: Fomatone lith prints with high colour saturation, as was once commonplace, are currently not possible.
This leaves only Foma Retrobrom for colour lith prints from current production.
No. 5 Retrobrom 152 Overexposure 3 to 3.5 f-stops (30+30+10+800 ml) development time 10 minutes – snowballs can also appear with this paper, but only with longer development times or stronger overexposure.

The problem with me when I get out is I keep going and going so it was nice to be forced to slow things down a bit
Years ago, I always find it is easier for me to make vertical (portrait) compositions.
Recently I tried to make more horizontal compositions than vertical ones.
This is one of the archive pictures taken in my Banff vacation which is in portrait format.

I showed my Canadian Rockies trip pictures to my friend.
And he quickly noticed my problem here. I had too many portrait (vertical) compositions,
I can easily see vertical scene but not horizontal ones. He advised me that landscape (horizontal) composition is naturally more suitable for scenic and landscape as the name suggested.
How I can practice more on landscape composition? Do you have any ideas and suggestions for me dear friends?

ONR train 207 rerailed after hitting a rural road crossing thick with packed down snow and ice jumping a unit off the rails.
The problem with the Midjourney image I previously posted (click to see here: imgur.com/xIZQ7Vv) is that it looks too much like the imitation of an old baroque oil painting. And it is incoherent. Where is the missing leg? The clothing is a mixture of current styles and 17th century styles.
This is how I recreated the scene of a budding 17th century scholar using Procreate and Stable Diffusion. I used an online mannequin app to create a more coherent pose and imposed it using Controlnet. Then I made a number of changes to the composition in Procreate. I repainted the clothing and background. Made some image adjustments in Luminar Neo.
Now I have an image of a husbandman's son, stealing a few minutes away from the drudgery of his work to enter and explore an imaginary world beyond the one he is apprenticed to. More photoreal. Better composition. Better lighting. Well, you may not agree that this is a better image. The Midjourney image is beautiful, if incoherent. But this image is my style.

Have you ever sat on a hillside overlooking a small beautiful cove that runs into a deep blue sea 🌊 behind us, having a conversation with four Shelties….If not, I suggest that you ought to try it sometime….As it can be quite a rewarding experience….Ok, I agree that it can be a job getting a word in edgeways’ sometimes….But I like to think that I can be a good listener when put my mind to it, especially when the conversation is about Maysie having trouble getting her directions to her food bowl ever since she had a stroke last October leaving her head on the tilt and her brain has not come to terms with that and likes to thinks that her head is perfectly upright. Making her feeding a bit problematic, but no big deal as she coupes well….But Millie has come up with a solution to the problem by suggesting buying a much bigger food bowl for her to target into……And guess what….She saw one in a boutique shop on our way up here….But because it has pictures of dogs around it sold from a boutique shop, the price is £18 sterling……As I start to buck at the price, Halo stops me right there, saying that Millie Jazz and himself would raid the CraZyGang treat fund and empty their pockets and do whatever it takes to raise the £18 needed to buy the big food bowl for Maysie, which for once left her speechless with gratitude…..And yes this this is a true story, and did I not say those conversations with Shelties can be a very rewarding experience…Sigh…Oh yes indeed they can….
