Macro Mondays, theme: Multicolor.

This is a single photograph of a small cube made of dichroic glass. The cube consists of fused prisms. Dichroic glass displays two or more different colors depending on the angle of light and the viewer’s perspective. The use of four different light sources generated the colors through the effects of the prisms and the dichroic glass.

This weeks Macro Monday theme is "Begins with the Letter P". Prism covers that nicely.

This photo was taken in my workshop, the only place I could set up the conditions needed to illustrate the refractive properties of the prism. Unfortunately it is very dusty there, and the inexpensive acrylic prism was like a small dust magnet. But you get the point.

SQUARE PRISM von Nathaniel Rackowe ist eine zeitgebundene, sequenzierte Lichtinstallation, die speziell für diesen einzigartigen Ausblickspunkt von Hildesheim konzipiert wurde. Die leuchtenden Lichtlinien in Square Prism werden abwechselnd erleuchtet, bis sich die Komposition allmählich verschiebt und an Geschwindigkeit gewinnt, und das Werk zum Schluss der Sequenz einen Würfel, ein quadratisches Lichtprisma, bildet.

Nathaniel Rackowe (* 1975) ist ein in London lebender Künstler aus Großbritannien. Seine oft großräumigen, auf Städte bezogenen Strukturen und Lichtskulpturen geben die menschliche Navigation durch einen urbanen Lebensraum wieder.

International Light Art Biennial EVILIGHTINGS 2020 in Hildesheim:

SQUARE PRISM by Nathaniel Rackowe is a time-bound, sequenced light installation, which was especially designed for this unique viewpoint of Hildesheim. The luminous lines of light in Square Prism are illuminated alternately until the composition gradually shifts and gains speed, and the work forms a cube, a square light prism, at the end of the sequence.

Nathaniel Rackowe (* 1975) is a British artist living in London. His often large-scale, city-related structures and light sculptures reflect the human navigation through an urban habitat.

Les orgues (par analogie avec l'instrument) ou les colonnes basaltiques sont une formation géologique composée de colonnes régulières. Elle résulte de la solidification et de la contraction thermique d'une coulée basaltique peu de temps après son émission. La partie inférieure, qui se refroidit ou s'assèche plus lentement, se fracture de la surface vers la profondeur sous formes de prismes sub-verticaux à section hexagonale d'ordre décimétrique. Ces colonnes sont surmontées d'une zone de petits prismes moins réguliers (ou « faux prisme ») pouvant s'associer en gerbes.

La genèse des orgues a été mise en équation par Lucas Goehring et ses collègues de l'Université de Toronto. La loi d'échelle mise en évidence relie la largeur entre deux fissures aux propriétés du milieu et au flux de chaleur ou d'humidité. Elle est vérifiée avec un modèle basé sur de la fécule de maïs qui se comporte comme de la lave. La régularité des colonnes basaltiques de la Chaussée des Géants en Irlande du Nord serait ainsi due à une perte de chaleur constante.
