“The printing press displayed here was used during the 1870s and 1880s. It is derivative of the original printing press used on February 21, 1828, when the first national bilingual newspaper – the Cherokee Phoenix - made its debut. The Phoenix continued publication until 1834, when controversy surrounding removal caused it to be discontinued. In 1835, the printing press was confiscated by the State of Georgia and the fate of the original press is unknown. In 1844, the Cherokee Phoenix was replaced by the Cherokee Advocate as the Cherokee national bilingual newspaper in Tahlequah, Indian Territory.”
Koenig's steam printing press was one of the most important technological advances in printing pre-1900. While earlier hand operated printers could only manage 480 pages per hour, Koenig's first steam press in 1812 could print as many as 800 pgs/hr. Within six years of innovation this number had risen to 2400.

I really don't know how you'd use a linotype printing press, but apparently it uses a keyboard of some sort.
