I suspect that things like printers don't last nearly as long in India as in other parts of the world due simply to the dust! They have a lot more of a repair industry than we do in the US though.
One theory...

The "local brain" is hidden under the black goop. When I have time I'll have to hook up my scope to the various contacts on the right side. I hope it is something common like power + SPI. It's bad enough that my scope doesn't have decoders built in. Maybe it's time to get a SALEAE. Not cheap, but it runs on linux as far as I can tell ;-)
