Born in Victoria, BC, Canada in July of 1965, Warren is a pioneer of highly detailed comic art.
He has adhered to fine art sculpting principles throughout his long career and is considered the most consistently representative comic sculpture in the world.
As a youth in the Fairfield area of Victoria, Warren was encouraged by a number of mentors and teachers to sculpt in the free-standing form, a practice he has never strayed from. One of his funniest memories was when he was a young and impressionable teenager in an advanced sculpting class. Warren was enthusiastic when the teacher said they were going to sculpt a live model one evening. He was not quite prepared as the beautiful woman completely disrobed on the stage in front of the students. Being the shy, youngest member of the class he quickly turned around and sculptured a very long haired woman rising out of a rock at the waist. The model was not pleased with his work but the teacher loved it!
warren stratfordWarren soon began to concern himself with his lifelong objective: portraying the variations of humor and atmosphere brought on by comical things he thinks about. Rather than copy others as was the traditional practice of young artists, Warren learned from people around him, from the landscape itself, and from the works of his older contemporaries. Warren’s representation of humor are based on his observations of people he meets and interviews.
He often shows natural color by breaking it down into its different components as a prism does. Eliminating dull and boring from his palette, Warren rejected entirely the academic approach to comic sculpting.
Warren gIn the Signature Series Warren allows his vision of light to dissolve the real structures of his subjects. To do this he chose simple subjects, making several humorous studies of the same subject at different occupations or activities.
Warren shares his time between Asia and his home town Victoria. Look for more Signature Series as Warren is always finding humor wherever he goes.
Warren’s work is particularly well represented in shops around the world. It is also included in many famous private collections.

Objective 3: Elements and Principles of Design
The principles of design demonstrated (describe the use):
Pattern: Both the Plaid on the shirt, and he wild lines of the hair.
Objective 5: Post Production (ex. dust/spot removal, resize, contrast, white balance, sharpening, borders, etc.)
: Created HDR as well as resizing. A light black and white effect was added with a Deep yellow filter. The eyes were then recolored
Objective 7: Photographic Styles (ex. portrait, landscape, etc.) – Explain why the settings and composition are appropriate for the style of photography. (How did you create the shot?) You do NOT need to do Objective 2 if you are handing in this objective.
Type/style of photography: HDR
The camera mode Av: Allowed for the weird contorting off the face well not making the background too distracting. Because I could change the F-stop.
f stop used:4.5, I was as close to the subject as possible, so a large aperture was the best option.
shutter speed used: 1/5,1/80,1/20, used different shutter speeds to collect more/less light
ISO used:200
Exposure compensation: 2,-2, 0, used different exposures to create the HDR
Focal length: 15mm, to distort the face as much as possible to add to the cartoony surrealist effect of the HDR

My goal measurement chart- a sewing measuring tape and a strip of cash register paper rolled up the hall wall, across the ceiling and down the other side. The paper is where I record big steps taken toward my clear goal,or significant action/results experienced as a result of trying to live Deena Morton's 4 principles. The sticker dot (moved lower for the photo) moves up an inch every time I've completed a new step towards my goal or taken a life change-for-the-better step...that 'the 4 Principles' directly influenced. My 'Quantum Leap' would be to inch, one result at a time, in an arc across the ceiling down to the floor on the other side, since it's an unusually long measuring tape.

Explore each of the formal compositional principles below. In some cases, several principles may be involved in the composition of the image. This is fine, but the principle you choose should be what you feel is the PREDOMINATE one in the look of the image. Submit one image for each principle below.
There are many shapes but the most noticeable ones are the arrows pointing down. There are also many lines going in various yet uniform directions that form many patterns.

There are many different styles of hedge laying throughout the countryside but the principles remain the same: Each stem is thinned down, bent-over, woven-in and that there is a good clean heal low to the ground.
This traditional hedge-laying technique is carried out on a rotational basis. Although hedge-laying is a time-consuming practice, it does have the advantage of prolonging the life of the hedge and encouraging the growth of new shoots.
Hedgerows are important invertebrate habitats in their own right, often providing the most significant wildlife habitat over large stretches of lowland UK. Over 1500 insects have been recorded at some time living or feeding in hedgerows.
"Since 1945 there has been a drastic loss of hedgerows through removal and neglect throughout the UK. It has been estimated that some 42% of the remaining British hedges, or about 154,000 km, are ancient and/or species-rich. Such hedges are concentrated in southern England, especially in the south-west, and in southern Wales. Hedgerows adjacent to roads, green lanes, tracks and wooded ground tend to be particularly species-rich."

Proportion and balance play a big role in this poster. The elements of the poster are related to each other, and it creates the harmony and easy look to the whole image. The optical weight is symmetrical, and the all elements are centered.
