Gare SNCF de Monaco 07/06/2017 11h59
Arrived at Monaco Monte Carlo for a visit to this micro city state on the Côte d'Azur.
Gare de Monaco - Monte Carlo
Monaco - Monte-Carlo is the only railway station in the Principality of Monaco. It is served by trains of the French operator SNCF, on the Marseille–Ventimiglia railway line. The station, along with the entire railway line in the principality, is underground.
The railway line from Marseille reached Monaco in 1868. The station, originally named Monaco (Gare de Monaco), was renamed Monaco-Monte Carlo in the 1950s, after the building of a new tunnel bypassing a second SNCF station named Monte Carlo.
In the early 1990s, it was decided to re-route the railway underground and build a new station. Construction commenced in 1993, and the new station opened on 7 December 1999. This comprises a curved tunnel 466 metres in length, 22 metres wide and 13 metres in height. There are three tracks through the station, accessed from a side platform on the south side, and an island platform between the two tracks to the north.

FACE OFF (2017)
Philippe Pasqua
This momumental bronze statue represents a young woman leaning on her forearms. The skinned half of her face reveals a skull, a vanity, the allegoric figure of death. An approach to remind us that the human condition os fragile and that Death is always lurking behind the face of Life. A few years ago, Philippe Pasqua painted the portrait of a little girl with Down syndrome; and later, he sculpted a stone statue of the portrait and followed with a lead sculpture. With this malleable metal, he opened a part of the head to embed a skull, that is one his preferred main themes.

Super car spotting in Monaco is not that difficult. I found this quite new Bentley Flying Spur in front of the Cathedral.
Bentley Flying Spur
Bentley Motors Limited is a British manufacturer and marketer of luxury cars and SUVs—and a subsidiary of Volkswagen AG since 1998.
Headquartered in Crewe, England, the company was founded as Bentley Motors Limited by W. O. Bentley in 1919 in Cricklewood, North London.
The Bentley Continental Flying Spur (2006 - 2013) is the second Bentley manufactured since Volkswagen Group purchased the brand in 1999, after the Continental GT. The Flying Spur is essentially a four-door version of the GT, with a stretched wheelbase and greater length for more spacious rear seating. The two models are similarly priced.
On 12 February 2013, Bentley Motors announced a redesigned Flying Spur for model-year 2014. It carries the same twin-turbo 6.0-litre W12 used in the Continental GT, for an output of 616 horsepower, 590 pound-feet of torque and zero-to-sixty-mph time of 4.3 seconds.

Monaco
Monaco, officially the Principality of Monaco (French: Principauté de Monaco), is a sovereign city-state, country and microstate but claimed by the Occitan nationalism, located on the French Riviera in Western Europe. France borders the country on three sides while the other side borders the Mediterranean Sea. Monaco has an area of 2.02 km2 and a population of about 38,400 according to the last census of 2016.
With 19,009 inhabitants per km², it is the second smallest and the most densely populated country in the world. Monaco has a land border of 5.47 km, a coastline of 3.83 km, and a width that varies between 1,700 and 349 m. The highest point in the country is a narrow pathway named Chemin des Révoires on the slopes of Mont Agel, in the Les Révoires Ward, which is 161 metres above sea level. Monaco's most populous Quartier is Monte Carlo and the most populous Ward is Larvotto/Bas Moulins. Through land reclamation, Monaco's land mass has expanded by twenty percent; in 2005, it had an area of only 1.974 km2. Monaco is known as a playground for the rich and famous, due to its tax laws. In 2014, it was noted about 30% of the population was made up of millionaires, more than in Zürich or Geneva.
Monaco is a principality governed under a form of constitutional monarchy, with Prince Albert II as head of state. Although Prince Albert II is a constitutional monarch, he wields immense political power. The House of Grimaldi have ruled Monaco, with brief interruptions, since 1297. The official language is French, but Monégasque, Italian, and English are widely spoken and understood.

We have spent about one hour in the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco to enjoy the beauty of what's happening below sealevel. One of the beautiful aquaria I have ever seen. Never seen a shark from this close and I can't remember ever have taken pictures of them.
Oceanographic Museum
The Oceanographic Museum (Musée océanographique) is a museum of marine sciences in Monaco-Ville, Monaco. It is home to the Mediterranean Science Commission. This building is part of the Oceanographic Institute which is committed to sharing its knowledge of the oceans.
The Oceanographic Museum was inaugurated in 1910 by Monaco's modernist reformer, Prince Albert I. Jacques-Yves Cousteau was director from 1957 to 1988. The Museum celebrated its centenary in March 2010, after extensive renovations.
This monumental example of highly charged Baroque Revival architecture has an impressive façade above the sea, towering over the sheer cliff face to a height of 85.04 meters. It took 11 years to build, using 100,000 tons of stone from La Turbie.
The museum is home to exhibitions and collections of various species of sea fauna (starfish, seahorses, turtles, jellyfish, crabs, lobsters, rays, sharks, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, eels, cuttlefish etc.). The museum's holdings also include a great variety of sea related objects, including model ships, sea animal skeletons, tools, weapons etc., as well as a collection of material culture and ritual objects made from, or integrating materials such as pearls, molluscs and nacre.

Adóparadicsom! :D
Ajjaj!
Most Budapesten átlagosan 400 ezer forint egy m2, ami azt jelenti, hogy egy tágas, 100 m2-es pesti lakás árából pont kitelik egy monacói vendégklotyó valamelyik mellékutcában. :D (info: burzsuj blog)

VANITÉ (2017)
Philippe Pasqua
Philippe Pasqua's first work, produced in 1997, was embedded with a skull that has, over the years, become the main theme and emblem of his work. The work he displays on the esplanade of the Oceanographic Museum is his largest piece; the solid bronze and polished sculpture is 3.70 meters tall and weights 1 ton. The skull illustrates the remnants of humand after death while the butterflies symbolize lightness, the immaterial flame of the departing soul. The work is part of the tradition of the vanities, a major component of Art History defined as the allegoric figure of death, of the passage of time, of the fragility of life in contrast to the emptiness of human occupations.

Cathédrale Notre-Dame-Immaculée (Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception), also known as Saint Nicholas Cathedral (name of the old church which was demolished in 1874), Cathédrale de Monaco, is the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Monaco in Monaco-Ville, Monaco, where many of the Grimaldis were buried, including Grace Kelly and more recently, Rainier III.
The cathedral was built in 1875-1903 and consecrated in 1911, and is on the site of the first parish church in Monaco built in 1252 and dedicated to St. Nicholas.
