This is my new (used) press!!! It is a Ray Trayle etching press. He is a retired engineer who built around 63 presses--all are different and unique. Mine is dual motor/fly wheel action, press bed is 32" across. It's so pretty! I bought it with the money I earned from this commission---->(next pic)

It reads:
THE PRESS.
The Printing Press is one of the best friends we have. By its use, we are in easy possession of a great deal of useful knowledge, that we could not otherwise obtain without great labor and expense. It makes good books and newspapers so numerous and cheap, that every body who wishes can have them.
Have you ever seen a printing press? If you never have, ask your parents to please take you to a printing office to see one. It is a very curious machine.

Any clue what this might have been used for? History? Etc?

I don't think there is a more pronounced tribute in America to the bookmaking of William Morris, than The Hollow Land, printed by Fred and Bertha Goudy at The Village Press. The book had been started in Park Ridge, Ill. on Thanksgiving Day, 1903, but was not completed until October 1905, after the press had relocated to Hingham, Massachusetts. The fronticepiece drawing was by Walter J. Enright, and the book also contained a drawing in ink by Bror J. O. Nordfelt done with a toothpick. Of the edition of 220 copies, only about 85 survived the Parker Building fire in New York, January 10, 1908.
