Difficult not to feel awed when close to a hungry polar bear (Ursus maritimus). Taken at Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge run by Churchill Wild Safaris.

It is fullmoon tonight.

Salkantay Mountain was in our vision for many long days of trekking. It was an experience of a lifetime that was remarkable physically, mentally and spiritually. The mountain kept us humble and grounded.

This enchanting snapshot brings to life the hidden beauty within a neighborhood's green space. A resplendent cluster of magenta crepe myrtle blossoms takes center stage, its vivid color popping against the soft-focus backdrop of community foliage. The flower's intricate, ruffled petals stand out in sharp detail, drawing the eye amidst the green tapestry of leaves and the sturdy presence of tree trunks in the background.

This image beautifully captures the essence of urban landscaping done right - where pockets of intense natural beauty are seamlessly integrated into shared community areas. It's a testament to how thoughtful planning can bring the magic of nature right to our doorsteps, creating serene retreats within the bustle of neighborhood life. The photograph serves as a reminder of the small yet impactful moments of beauty that residents can encounter in their daily lives, highlighting the value of preserving and nurturing green spaces in our urban environments.

A fun shoot for a talented Writer.

Great Egret

≠================≠≠

Yes, it was a cold and windy day, and the Egret had found some shelter.

Normally I'd just have acknowledged its presence and moved on, but the whisps of breeding plumage contrasting the dried grasses were interesting

Shadow of Neptune's statue in Bologna. Besides the shadow, there is something ....Look closely

I've been watching these boys bond since they met a week ago, but this is another "first"--finding them snuggling together. This series of 4 shots was shot in this sequence. Muse and Guru acknowledged my presence with a few stretches, without waking up as far as I could tell. Then they settled right back to what they were doing. Power napping.

A Common Tern fly close and attacking photographers who were walking too close to their nesting area at Nickerson Beach in Long Island, NY.

Common Terns have long, narrow, angular wings and pointed wingtips. Unlike gulls, the Terns have a straight, slender bill. The tail is forked and the legs are short.

They are pale gray overall with a black cap. Breeding birds have a fully black cap that extends to the back of the neck and a gray belly. They also have an orange bill tipped in black and orange legs. Non-breeding birds have a white forehead a partial black cap, and black legs and bill. They also have a black bar across the shoulder known as a carpal bar and dark trailing edges on the wingtips as seen in flight.

Tern fly gracefully with rowing wingbeats over open waters, diving down to pick fish from or just below the water's surface. They are vocal and gregarious birds that make their presence well known.

Exceptional presence of ST43 locomotives in passenger traffic service in summer 2004 around Jasło wasn't out of reason. If you read the story at this picture, you probably remember the sudden disappearance of all non-modernized SP32 class commencing on July 1, 2004. The impact of this fact on the locomotives inventory in the middle of summer season must have effected in increasing employment of other classes, mostly ST43s usually available in Jasło, and some SP42s, reassigned quite promptly to the Jasło depot. ST43s used to be employed mostly for heavier express trains then, usually mode demanding in terms of tractive effort requirement.

Here, ST43-345 with the express train 33501 from Gdynia Główna to Zagórz, moment after departed from Tarnowiec station. July 19, 2004.

a blog article about the narrative, the stories of our life on the website

www.chris-r-photography.net/blog/2015/11/21/the-narrative...

There’s something quietly beautiful about companionship—the kind that doesn’t need grand gestures or elaborate plans, just the simple presence of another soul. Whether it's sitting side by side in comfortable silence, sharing a laugh over an inside joke, or swapping stories deep into the night, there’s a warmth in knowing someone is there with you, without expectation or demand.

Companionship can be found in the everyday—watching the world go by together, listening to music or watching a movie with someone, or simply existing in each other’s space. It’s the ease of unspoken understanding, the familiarity of a well-worn bond, and the reassurance that even in quiet moments, connection is alive.

It doesn’t always need words; sometimes, a shared glance, a hand resting beside yours, or just the awareness of someone being near are enough to remind you that you’re not alone. And that is a gift in itself.

Some ancient tree was here long time ago. Only the rotting remnants in the ground now provides food for moss and mushrooms. Is there a ghost presence of the tree? Is it moaning in the wind if there is no wind? There is a lot of fog, air is still, and yet you can still hear it, the woody sounds of something talking in old Entish language...hmm.

Dryocopus pileatus

For those of you old enough to remember the cartoon character Woody Woodpecker, the Pileated Woodpecker was allegedly at least one inspiration for cartoonist Walter Lantz's mischievous woodpecker. Much like Woody, this fellow was announcing his presence with his characteristic very loud, laugh-like call. The male is distinguishable from the female in that its forehead and "mustache" are both red.
