The Predator is our run’n’gun stability kit for the Canon C100, C300 and C500*. The fixed LCD screen of the C100 camera particularly lends itself to this compact, simple kit. It is perfect for fast paced shoots and lightweight set ups.
The Predator starts with our Gorilla Baseplate. The rest of the framework attaches via a vertical post that connects to the underside of the plate via a quick-release ratcheting lever. A tripod plate can be installed under the Gorilla Baseplate via standard ¼ 20” and 3/8 16” screw holes. The Gorilla Plate has a 15mm port on the side to attach an accessory arm like the Standard Mount for our EVF. It also has two lightweight threaded rod ports on the front. You can add rods to hold a follow focus or mattebox.
The Predator includes an adjustable gunstock on a ball joint that can settle comfortably into the shooters chest to create a solid brace. The ‘handle’ portion of the Predator is ourC100/300 Grip Relocator. The Canon removable camera grip attaches directly to our Grip Relocator handle and our exclusive cable connects to the port on your camera. Once its plugged in, users have trigger or on/off control, lens aperture control, and a programmable function button that can be set to a number of things including waveform, 1 to 1 zoom, zebras, my menu, and many more. The cable is 24" long.
C100 Users: We recommend the Predator be used with our C100 Z-finder directly on the camera LCD. Our Z-finder will magnify the screen, cut out the light, and has a diopter to adjust for any eyesight issues. It also gives the user one more point of stability. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting new product!
*The Predator can be used on the C500 but you must have a C100/C300 grip for this kit to work.

Lest we forget that the great blue heron is a fearsome predator - this duckling was slightly separated from its parents in the reeds and the heron spotted it from 3m away. The heron took a flying dive and snagged this unfortunate victim in a flash. The duckling was killed and disappeared headfirst down the heron's gullet in less than 10 seconds after this shot.
Scottish Wildcat (felis silvestris grampia)
Infamously the only wild animal to be completely untameable, even when captive reared, Scottish wildcats may look a little like your pet cat but these are incredibly tough super-predators, sometimes called the Tiger of the Highlands.
They are intelligent, fearless, resourceful, patient, agile and powerful, they are genuine superpredators. Surviving human persecution for five hundred more years than the British wolf and over a thousand more years than the British lynx or bear, they inspired and terrified the same Highland clans that defied the Roman and English empires. Today the wildcat continues to receive the respect of Highland farmers and gamekeepers.
The Scottish form is the largest in the wildcat family with males typically between 6-9kg (13-17lb) and females 5-7kg (11-15lb), around 50% larger than the average domestic cat. Fossil examples measuring 4 feet from nose to tail have been found; such a cat could have weighed around 14kg (30lb).
Their body is an evolutionary perfection; eighteen razor sharp retractable claws and rotating wrists for gripping prey and climbing trees, immensely powerful thigh muscles for 30mph sprinting, the ability to fall from the highest pine tree, land on its feet and walk away unscathed, incredible stealth, balance and agility all wrapped in a thick, camoflaged and religiously cleaned coat with one downy layer to keep in the warm and another outer layer to keep out the rain and cold.
Unique to Britain, and now only found in Scotland, they are a sub species of the European wildcat (felis silvestris silvestris) and although similar to the European the Scottish is slightly larger with a thicker coat, more heavily camoflaged and hunts and lives across a wider range of habitats.
Vocal communication is extremely rare, saved for displays of aggression or, whilst in heat, females wail loudly to attract male attention and are quite possibly the root of many Highland tales about screaming banshees. A silent demeanour is essential for hunting and avoiding larger predators so even wildcat kittens will play in complete silence.
Wildcats simply enjoy their personal space, daily schedule and peace. A wildcat will only attack something it's hunting, or something that it feels is hunting it.
Sadly, our wildcat is critically endangered with less than 400 individuals remaining in the wild and barely a handful in the captive breeding population. www.scottishwildcats.co.uk/wildcat.html

I went out yesterday afternoon for a little macro shooting. It was very hot and windy but I found a little Blue Dasher tucked away in a hedge so I started snapping some shots. Shortly after that this robberfly buzzed my ear and landed on a branch above my head. I was able to snap one shot of her and she dove off her perch and drove the Blue Dasher to the ground.
The sight was a little bittersweet, but these are two of my favorite subjects and this was an incredible thing to witness.
Focusing was alittle tough, because I do not stack. I wanted to try to get both of their faces in focus but I knew this wasn't going to happen so I split the difference.
The Predator can provide near real-time reconnaissance using a satellite data link system and perform attack missions as well. It served over the Balkans, Afghanistan, and during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. The most historic use of the Predator and Hellfire missiles occurred when CIA ground forces directed attacks against Al Qaeda forces during the opening months of the war on terrorism. Highlighted in this image are the armament and undercarriage of the Predator.
